Not sure how many people have experience with the self moistening terracotta hides that were being sold in Aus for a while. The hides essentially have a water reservoir at the top with the cave component at the bottom and created with unsealed terracotta. The water would seep through to the cave part and keep a moist hide which only required topping up.

I have been having a hard time finding a supplier so I was considering making my own. Has anyone had a crack at making some or know how difficult it would be to construct them? I havnt had much experience with what type of clay to use and whether to kilm heat it or use a self hardening type.

I have attached a picture of ones similar I would trying to replicate.

Cheers!

J
