All the rangers up the top end advocate the freezer method of disposal. At least officially.

Not nearly as much fun as a 9 iron though.
 
I think the "inhumane" issue is more when the toad is placed directly into the freezer, and is not cooled in the refrigerator for a few hours first.

..I would think that its the less inhumane way of dealing with the little buggers.. make them fall asleep and die fast.

When placed directly into the freezer the water in the body starts to freeze before the toad to dies, which is very painful. It is a similar scenario to frostbite in humans. If the toad is cooled in the refrigerator first, they go to "sleep" and don't feel the pain of the freezing process.
