OK this will be an annoying question im annoyed at myself for asking but im a little confused with the nsw licensing scheme.
I understand you need your class 1 licence for 2 years befor going to class 2.
what do you need to do to move up a class?
what class can vens be kept?
what do you have to do to be able to keep these?
Please dont say google ive tried and have also looked on the licence web site with no luck unless there is a link that i am missing if there is could someone please link it for me? i can be blind sometimes

thanks in advance and anyone that feels i need to be told im an ***** i already know haha:D

Found this after a bit of a long Google search. It is only the class 2 application form though. Vens need class 3. I think you have to do a venomous snake handling course before you can apply for it though. Your best bet would be to call the DECC to get more info. Hope that helps until someone who actually knows what they're talking about replies :)

The requirements for advanced can be viewed via this link
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/wildlifelicences/advancedlicencerequirements.pdf

Once you've had your R1 licence for 2 years, you fill out an application for advanced class licence (same one you use if you want to go to a cat 1,2, or 3 ven licence). You will also need to prove you meet the criteria to upgrade your licence (it's all the application form anyway). The application can be found via this link:
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/r...nces/AnimalKeepersApplicationFormAdvanced.pdf

The current species list can be found via this link, the right hand column indicates what class of licence is required for that animal.
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/nature/CurrentSpeciesList.pdf

Hope this helps

Basic license for 2 years, over the age of 18, and 2 references.
No references required in NSW to go to R2 advanced (although cat 1-2-3 ven will need references)

ah that makes more sence now thank you all for your help :) finding the right pages is a nightmare i couldnt even find the class two application form

If you have a bearded dragon and a blue tongue or python on class 1 and want to move up to class 2 to get a Lace monitor, they will not allow it as you have had no experience with monitors , if you get my drift!

Thanks :) im mainly interested in the python side of the licence but i do understand what you mean and even why they do that

Fay do you know how strict they are on this? I've applied for my class 2 for GTPs and RSPs but I would also like a Lacey. I have never owned monitors though

Thats what I want to know too.

I even emailed the DECC about this but they never got back to me and that was last year.

My friend told me it's fine and people do it all the time. I've heard that they don't check the books though unless they're about to raid you so that's why this kind of thing slips through the cracks. I don't want to do it though and then end up losing my animal(s)

There are no conditions on individual species on R1 and R2 licences tho, are there? So do DECC just apply a subjective judgement as to whether you are allowed to get certain animals on R2? That doesn't sound right...

EDIT:Except maybe for endangered or threatened species, which case in point eg lacies are not.

All I know is, to apply for a class 2 lic you need to have had the same in class 1, eg to get a GTP on class 2 you need to of had a python in class 1 for atleast 2 yrs.

But I want to know if once you have your class 2, can you get any animal that is a class 2 or to do you need to do the whole thing again.

Hi everyone. Ive had the same problem with national parks on this matter. Ive had bearded dragons for 2 years so i can have class 2 dragons. For you to have any other class 2 species you need to of held them in class 1 for 2years before they will allow you to hold them in class 2. So once you hold them in class 1 for 2years the will open ur licence up and send you a letter informing you of what other stuff you can now hold. I hope this helps everyone. Im just going off what national parks have told me.

So, you need to have held that type of animal for 2 years?
You cant just go out and have it for 6 months or so, and get your cat 2 even if you have had cat 1 for 2 years or more?
Sounds fair

So when I get my class 2 in 3 or 4 weeks (hopefully) it will come with a caveat saying I can only keep dragons and pythons on class 2?

Sounds fair but doesn't look good for my lacey desire :(

Apparently thats the way its working now. Yet if we had all got our licences 4years back we could keep anything we wanted after 2 years.

I am not sure how strict they are on this, but do know personally a couple of people that it has happened to. They applied for their class 2 and received a letter explaining to them why they could not upgrade it to get that actual animal.
If you have a class 1 licence and have kept a variety of pythons then wanted to upgrade to a roughy or GTP, then I cannot see a problem.
It might just be a case of if they like you or not......LOL

Haha yeah from a couple of stories from friends it sounds like they don't even read your books unless they are about to raid you. Even then it seems to only be the guys with the high risk species or big breeders.
Like I said I just don't want to become attached to an animal then have it taken away from me. I'm confident I am able to look after it and meet it's needs but I guess it's the DECC's job to decide that not mine. Maybe I'll just have to go with a Sandy for a couple of years
