Hi everyone,
I am new to this Forum. Found it loaded with information.
I would say I am a near total newbie with keeping reptiles... but am surrounded by friends who have reptiles (snakes, dragons) and amphibians :) ..I love the bearded dragons... am nearly ready to keep one myself but have a few queries.
I am currently in Sydney for studies .. I am looking into getting a central bearded (this seemed to be the most common here in NSW/VIC etc) but found out that I can't bring them to WA (that is if I were to go home after completing my studies here in Sydney). WA only allows western bearded... does anyone know if we can get one in NSW ... I can't seemed to find them... all my friends have the central bearded and they are lovely...

Hello and welcome :)

You can only get in NSW:
Central Bearded Dragons - Pogona Vitticeps
Eastern Bearded Dragons - Pogona Barbata
Pygmy Bearded Dragons - Pogona Henrylawsoni
The one most recommended for first time keepers is the Central Beardie.
The answer is No, you cannot transport Central Beardies into WA.
I have never seen Western beardies (Pogona Minor)
advertised and I am not sure if they can be kept here or not, I don't think so.

Cheers

Thanks... had been looking for a bit and yes, no western bearded. Anyway, I love the Central... but would prefer to keep one that can be moved out West when the times comes...

I just looked up the nsw species list and you can keep a western in nsw. Finding one to by on the other hand might be a bit tricky. I'm not sure how easy it is to export out of WA but if you can buy one from WA and export them and the import them into nsw might be a way to go.

Yeah.. have been looking around... anyone knows anyone with a Western... as when I do move back to WA, that would be a problem.. I have had no luck... maybe when comes spring time there may be more babies...

try the for sale section on this site or you can try looking in Reptiles Down Under.

:(Am still looking for a Western here in NSW... must the only odd person here . Will keep looking.. not many westie babies either.

WA has some very strict laws in regards to reptiles. Have you checked whether or not you will be able to take the dragon back with you to WA?
