I just noticed there is a small amount of blood in my female ackie's poop. Has anyone ever noticed this before? The male has been mating with her a lot lately so could it be something to do with ovulation etc? She appears to be fine aside from the blood.

Cheers

more likely wear and tear than ovulation,..

might be nice to seperate them to give her a break, if hes done the deed she'll be gravid and theres no need for more unwanted affection.

OK thanks I''ve already done that, the poor thing is being harassed constantly. Have you seen this before? I'd hate to think it's something else.

It could also be GIT infection, parasitism, kidney disease or a urinary tract infection...I'd get it checked just to be safe, especially if you are in Sydney and there are lots of competant herp vets available.

If she seems perfectly fine aside from the small amount of blood, you could probably wait a day or 2 to see if theres blood in her next poo as well since she's been seperated.

if there is blood in the next poo, or you notice any change in behaviour, off to the vet,...

im guessing if the blood is from being over mated theres always a chance of infection,..so watch her closely.

Not discouraging you from seeking a vet straight away, that part is up to you! :p

Hmm, sounds expensive. I don't think it's parasitism as I have two others housed with her and they are very healthy. She is not basking excessively. If it is kidney disease there is nothing that can be done anyway.

Yep I'll continue to monitor her. If it gets worse I'll consider a vet.

This attitude really depresses me. its not about the money, its about keeping your pet healthy. As an animal owner this is our responsibility.

The longer things get left the more expensive they become. a consult to check that everything is ok shouldnt set you back much more than $40-50

She didn't really come out today, I'm a little worried about her actually. I won't be able to get to the vet until Wednesday at the earliest due to work.

If she is lethargic she may be suffering from anaemia, infectious disease is also a common cause of lethargy particularly gastrointestinal parasites - some parasites that live in the GIT also feed on blood.
If you believe she is sick (blood in the poo is obviously not normal, but as stated above may be trauma due to mating), I would try to see the vet as soon as possible - perhaps even ask a friend or family member to take her because putting it off will only hinder the treatment and recovery, and also probably cost you more money.

Assessing her demeanor and making that decision is all on you though as we cant physically see her
