Do you have one of those South West Crack Pythons?? They never sleep and only eat 1 pinky every 6 months! You can't keep them in wooden enclosures because they move so fast the wood catches on fire.

Not if they've been up all night on speed........

Exactly what do you mean by snakes not sleeping?

My snakes stay up late but by morning they're usually tucked away in their hides and are late risers. Some come out to huddle near their heat but they remain motionless during the day.

I know now, when they are swallowing that last mouthful to have the camera already in place so I can snap pics like this..

It's moments like that when I lie in wait to pop the head of a fuzzy rat into one of my I-only-eat-quails-and-not-those-stinking-vermin olives...

I've seen wild snakes who were basking in the sun on a warm day and who were unaware of my presence who were stationary for long periods or knew I was there not far away and didn't feel threatened by me, ( usually while I'm quietly sitting there fishing on river bank somewhere) yawn . Looked like yawns to me.

So why wouldn't a snake sometimes have the need to yawn, they get tired and very relaxed too. And isn't yawning something to do a slight decline in oxygen in the bloodstream and hence in the animal's brain.

I've also seen lizards yawn - Lizzy frequently yawns when she's very warm, contented and relaxed while basking on the transformer or on the top of the lounge chair.

Sometimes when Lizzy yawns - I can't help but yawn too. I've also yawned sometimes (at afternoon siesta time when Lizzy has been hanging out with me and seen her yawn state away after I did.
