I recently picked up a young brown tree snake from a public place (shopping center...in a toilet) and have been trying to keep it as a pet. It wont eat anything I've tried feeding it. Won't touch pinkies, mealy grubs, lizards...it sort of looks interested at these things but won't eat them...I really have no idea what else to try except letting it go...any suggestions as to how to feed the snake?

(I have the pertinent license for my state)

Unless you have the license to capture reptiles and keep them, from the wild for a limited amount of time i would say you have to let it go somewhere where it wont come into alot of human contacts!

lol you need a licence & they should be captive bred mate, not just catch what you want. let it go! get a licence and buy one like the rest of us.

flame suit needed. im guessing as you have no idea how to feed this snake that your not licenced to collect wild snakes. hand the snake in to ur local national parks or a wires keeper before you kill it

as I said in the post I DO have the licence required to keep wild snakes...I do not understand how

I have the pertinent license for my state

was misinterpreted to meaning I don't have the correct licence...

im lost. put it simple please. yes you have the licence required to collect and keep wild snakes, or no you dont have the required licence

Well a Recreational Wildlife Licence IS TO KEEO SNAKES THAT YOU BUY LEGALLY NOT SNAKES THAT YOU CATCH ILLEGALLY.

Without the capitals, you cannot catch any reptile from the wild and try to keep it with that licence :) I'm in QLD too, so I have to follow the same rules as you do. All you have to do is buy a snake from a breeder (see if you can find someone on this website, maybe). A brown tree snake is probably not the best to start with anyway.

Try looking for a nice python such as a coastal carpet python, spotted python or even a woma. As has been stated, if you cannot get it to feed, you probably should not have the animal. Hand it in to a local national park or wires keeper so that they can care for it properly and let it go in a suitable area. Other wise, it will die.

Let it go near where you found it ASAP, if you want to keep them learn what is required then get one legally. They are much harder to keep than pythons and its seems you have very little knowledge of the species at this point. Being wild caught usually makes them even harder to look after.

and don't buy a brown tree snake if you think they eat meal worms!

I would say he would have to be smoking by now with the flaming everyone gave him. Try being a little friendlier people ;);)

Haha good one.
I reckon this is just someone looking for a laugh so stirring everyone up.

I would say he must have been smoking

when he decided to take a wild snake home in the first place ;)

Especially one as difficult & finicky to care for as a non captive BTS....

hey i have got brown tree snakes to eat, live Zebra finches, mice scented with fish, lizards, and birds. so give that a shot and best of luck. i once found a wild juvinile tree snake inside which i was going to release and whilst in my possession i managed to get it to feed on wild mouse hoppers that had tacken up residence in a gouldian finch nest box. Best of luck and wish you all the best with your experience with this amazing coloubrid.

Let it go asap they're a hard snake to keep as it is so you are just wasting youre time and also the poor lil snakes valueble natural feeding time.

Stumpy13 mate he's not even suposed to have the snake these days every one counts if we want them to be around in the next ten years.
