Hi,

I bought my first Murray Darling Carpet Python in June 2007, he was 5 months old and we named him Zorro. I would have to say that M.D's are great snakes and are probably one of the most under rated snakes, as they are affordable, grow to a decent size, look nice and are generally placid.

I had the idea of going through a mini-time line from when I got Zorro to how he is now, I thought that it might be interesting to see his size change, his attitude change as well as any colour differences there might be.

This photo is from when we first got him, he looked so innocent and tiny!

Then this photo is from the next few days, when he showed his true attitude and that even though he was a tiny little thing, he wasn't affraid to bite you!

Fast Track a couple of months, still a little bitey but not as bad as he was:

Here he is at the start of 2008, by this stage he hadn't bitten for months but was still a little flighty at times:

And that brings us up to 2009, these photos were taken today:

These days he is the biggest puppy dog and doesn't even look like he will bite you, he sometimes does a small hiss to let you know that he's had enough, that's about as far as it goes, the last time he bit anyone was about 9 months ago. He's growing well and around 150cm long at the moment, still has a little bit to go though =)

Also, just to let you know that he is due for a shed so he's a little dull at the moment.

Let us know what you think,

- Chris

Thanks for updating your pic's of Zorro chris. He is looking great :) Nice to see a collection of pic's you have taken as he is maturing...what a lovely boy he has grown into.

Well I think he looks great. But, I'm a bit biased, I have to agree with you they're an underrated python.

MD's are awesome!

There's some **** stuck in your arm in the third pic..better get it checked out.

Great stuff Chris,
They should be enforced as everyones first snake i think as they are pretty much ***** proof to care for and a great place to start with reptile keeping.Ive got 2 now and never tire of watching them.

Like everyone else i cant wait for mine to get some size like your Zorro.

Might be nice to post a couple more pics after he sheds?

I will take a couple of photos once he has shed, I love how M.D's look after they shed - their colours are just so nice and bright :)

Thanks for sharing! I can see what I've got to look forward to!

I'm doing the same thing with Snakey, by taking lots of photos as he's growing so I can compare his size when he grows. Everyone around me think I'm nuts as I take more pics of the snake than I do of the whole family combined!!! LOL

I love my MD and he's like yours, so placid. Snakey is so placid that he's nicknamed 'Petal' as he's such a delicate thing, the wuss...PMSL! (Not at feeding time though!!!)

Nice MD Chris, Ive been considering getting myself a pair of these but havnt quite made my mind up yet...youve pushed me just that bit closer to getting them :)

They're worth it! They're awesome snakes =) You should just go out and buy a pair! Now!

Thanks for the time line and the information about his progression. I have a costal carpet. He is about 5 months old and he is fairly jumpy. only had him for three weeks but was wondering how long it will take him to settle down so thanks for the info.

Zorro was around 9 months old when he finally began to calm down and stopped biting everything in site, we use to handle him about 2 or 3 times a week for 5 minutes at a time and he soon realised that everyone around him wasn't going to eat him.

He is looking good Chris, he was a very calm hatchy before I sent him to you ... LOL, it's good to see he has turned out to be a good snake for you.
Thanks for posting mate.

I think that he was angry at me for making he sit on a plane for hours and then sitting in the car for 40 minutes until we got home, then he decided to take it out on us for several months and now he is finally over it! He is one of the most placid snakes that I have at the moment, apart from my female adult stimson python. I can't wait until Zorro reaches his full adult size.

I am also hoping that in the near future I can purchase a female off you to pair up with Zorro in the future, I would just like to say thanks to Wayne (larks) again for breeding such an awesome animal :)
