As some of you may have read I have a bearded dragon, SHOCK.

Anyways my bearded is now about 7 months old, he enjoys being handled and loves coming out of his enclosure. He is a Eastern bearded dragon so hes also very active and loves a good run around the room to stretch his legs out.

Today I let him run around my bedroom, nothing out of the ordinary as I let him do it every day. How ever I turned my back on him for about 15 minutes to surf the net and procrastinate from doing uni work and I turn back around and its dead quiet. I cant hear him running around, jumping across mattresses or trying to climb up my wall. Due to the silence I thought that he must be getting cold and might be hugging a power pack to get warm. After looking at various power packs in my room only to come up empty handed I thought he must have crawled up the back of my computer. No luck there either.

I then think he may have climbed up the cords to his enclosure so I check the cords and in the enclosure and still nothing. I then think to myself he must be hiding under my bed among the spare mattresses so I pull them all out and still turn up empty handed.

It was at this point I started to freak out, there is no way in hell that he could get out of the room but he was no where to be found. I brought one of my little brothers in to help me look and we stripped the room again looking for him but still turned up empty handed. My brother said he would go get my other brother to help us look. So all three of us where looking for him and we still could not find him.

It was at this point I stood up getting very worried that I saw him. Good old Rex had gone over to the door into my room and climbed all the way up the fly screen to the very top of the door and was over in the far corner. At least I know the first place to look for him now. So I took a photo, got him down and hand fed him two meal worms for his effort :p

Let this be a lesson for all of you, always check the highest point of the room your lizard could possibly get too if you ever loose it

awesome story! I cant wait till mine gets a bit bigger and i can let him roam my bedroom once in a while... my two are still only 20cm long or so, they can just get into too much trouble being so small... (and the bigger of my two is NOT a handler at all... No chance!

Nice looking beardie too.

Rex is about 45cm - 50cm head to tail so hes not hard to miss which is great.

Yeah hes a beautiful eastern one of the best Ive seen the photo does him no justice, hes a beautiful Grey and light cream colour.

And as i type this he has just crawled off my shoulder and back onto the floor and is now roaming again.

do eastern's get a real big black bearded??? what makes them so different to the central other then the yellow coloured centrals...

Yes they do get a big black beard, other differences include,

There is differences in their body build:

A Eastern is more slender and long where as a Central is shorter and stockier.

A Easterns head is a arrow shape with a pointed snout, where as a Central is more rounded

The patterns on Easterns and Centrals are different

The lay out of their "spikes" are different and disperse differently.

A Eastern has a very distinctive banded tale with white / creme bands where the Central may not.

Different colour in the mouth, a Central has a pink mouth where as the Eastern has a yellow mouth.

Different layout of head pattern, the Eastern has three distinctive dots on its snout where as the Central has a W shape behind its ears.

Eating and Care:

Easterns can be fussy eaters depending on the lizard (don't usually eat salad), where as the Central will eat anything you put in front of them.

Some people say Easterns are harder to care for and are less forgiving when it comes to temperatures ect (I dont believe so)

Behavior & Activity

Easterns are naturally more aggressive and skittish compared to a Central. A Central will become very docile and very easy to handle very early on. With a Eastern due to the skittish and agressive nature It takes a little longer to calm it down. It took me nearly 2 months of handling every day to get my eastern to a point where it enjoys to be handled and will climb up on my hand if i place it into the enclouser, with my Central that process only took a matter of weeks.

Easterns are much more active and enjoy to run, jump and climb, where as centrals are more than happy to just sit and chill out.

Over All I much prefer the easterns, you can get them in the same sort of colourations as Centrals (Orange, Yellow ect) but it is rarer then centrals as not many people breed coloured Easterns. I enjoy their funny personalities and enjoy how active they are. Once you have handled a Eastern for a while Its just as good as a Central but more active.

Those are the basic differences, there are of course more indepth things but Im getting tired of typing :p
