I am not that versed in what I assume are Latin names for snakes and lizards and after reading replies to some posts over the last few years I felt it would be a good question. Why do some people tend to use Latin names when replying to posts that have been using common names, eg: rattling off 8...
Last year I looked for snakes and lizards.

A few finds from the weekend. I didnt do any active herping, just lucky enough to come across these guys. Also saw a Macleays Water Snake, unfortunately it disappeared into a hole under the river bank. The freshie is thanks to the missus, i was to busy fishing to notice it. The File snake was...

Hi,
just wondering if anyone can come up with a list of as many australian snakes that reproduce either ovoviviparous, oviparous and viviparous.. there are many sites that state some snakes 'bear live young' but they dont seem to differentiate between viviparous and ovoviviparous snakes..
can...
Was out fishing yesterday and had the pleasure to watch a Bokadam hunting mud skippers.....Has anyone had any experience with these curious little snakes......I find them very interesting but there does not seem to be much info on them.
I'm hoping to get a little GTS or 2 this season but i'd love to get some other species in the future like bockadams, macleays water snake, slatey greys, keel backs and brown tree's. Does anyone know what i'd expect to pay for these and where would be the best place to look?
Can anyone help identify this snake? It was found dead - presumably killed by the family dog. At first we thought it was a Slaty Grey, but the anal scales are divided? Located in the rural area of Darwin NT. The photos aren't great, but that's all I've got at this stage. Thanks for any assistance.
Okay so i've kept turtles and many tropical fish for years now, but i'm interested in keeping an aquatic snake.
I held a File Snake a few years ago, and thought they were great, but wanted to see what else was out there.
I'm looking for something fully aquatic.
I have a 100L, and a 380L...

Righto. I want to usurp The Other Thread and make a new 'longest running thread' on this site. Who wants to help? Unfortunately I've only seen four out of Australia's approximately eleven species. Hopefully I'll add to my count later this year with a trip up north.
Brown tree snakes (Boiga...

Whilst in Cairns recently we were swimming at Crystal Cascades and this guy pulled this snake out of the bottom of one of the water holes...does anyone know what type it is?? :?
Different Sp. of pythons are there?
Or rather how many different Pythons i.e Morelia Spilota Chenyei and Morelia Spilota McDowelli count as two not one.
Obviously not including morphs, also say scrubs for example they come from different parts like the tanimbar, and halmahera and Moluccan...
i have been banned from having a snake as a pet, by my parents :x . their reasons are:
1.
I am 16 and its not like i can take a snake into dorms at a uni or with me to my future education. (i want to work at a zoo/aquarium and be a zookeeper or maintain some big A$$ fish tanks at an...
