Hi all, i am thinking of getting a pair of ackies soon, and i was wondering what is the difference between red and yellow ackies? I know red is bigger and yellow is usually tamer but are they the same species or not. If they are the same species are they seperate subspecies? What is the...

Myself and my partner have been on a few herping trips lately and I thought id put up a few of the highlights.
I'll start with the local stuff. I've just done a couple of pretty dismal nights herping around Brisbane so far.
As there isn't too much to find I've been able to experiment with...
Not too long ago, myself and my girlfried, CVHG, umped onto a pressuresed metal tube and flew 2848.54 km / 1538.09 nautical miles to the NT's night life crazy CBD, Darwin.
We landed at midnight, with boots, camera equipment, a bag full of field guides and a sleeping bag each.
My best...
Following on from my thread on Aussie Snakes which can be seen here - http://www.aussiepythons.com/forum/field-herping-reptile-studies-5373/aussie-snakes-190769/ - I thought I'd put up a thread on some of the monitor lizards that I have also encountered on my herping travels. I haven't seen a...
I've just been reading about the Wild Crystal substrate and have a few questions that you may be able to answer for me.
1. Does it stick to the animal like sand can? I'd like to use a more natural looking substrate in my tanks, but I don't like the mess that sand can make.
2. How long can you...
Hi all,
I've been out of the herping picture for a little while (young family and all) and a little out of touch with whats happening in the hobby. For everyone who knows me my real reptile interest is in monitor species - all up I've kept 9 species so far.
There are the usual species all...
After having ackies for a little while as my 1st monitor like most people do,
now i've decided i'd like something a bit larger eventually leading up to lacies or perenties.
So, I'd like a little help on deciding and i'm sure alot of other people would be interested in also knowing
This...
Just thought I'd put up some pics of some of my animals. Thought I'd start with some of the lizards. I'll try add to it when I can.
Start off with a couple of my Cave Geckos.
This is my adult pair (male, same male but full body and female)
Hi all,
Some of you may remember a couple of months back I posted to say I had 5x V. primordius eggs incubating, well just thought I'd give you an update. Over the last couple of days the clutch has hatched and I have 5 tiny babies running around. I'll put some pics up over the next couple of...
Hi all,
Just thought I'd share my news with you. My female Varanus primordius has dropped her clutch. 6 eggs in all, 5 of which are fertile. Fingers crossed in a few months I'll hear the pitter patter of tiny feet.
I'll keep you posted.

Got my 1st Monitor today, a beautiful juvie male V.scalaris from boa, and I'm totally fascinated by his behaviour (the monitor's, not boa's)
Apart from (almost) already proving himself to be an adept escape-artist, just the way he's exploring & probing everything is amazing.
I was totally...

just to get people talking about reptiles (youve been talking about urls with dead people or something) and if anyone is searching for a reptile they wish to acquire they can find out who they can get them off or could help them find someone with some for sale.
what does everyone plan to breed...
