Hey guys im about to go to bed and i fed my spotted 2 fuzzys like 2 hours ago, this is the first time she has fed since i got her and i was curious if she needs the light on all night to digest properly or i should keep it off all night like normal cycle?? And also my 50w Infared globe blew today so i bought another one and upped it to 75W and the temperature is sitting happily at about 30 dgree's celcius but she's not basking right under the light like usual she's off to the side of it, does that mean its too hot for her possibly? i know 75w isnt really strong or anything just curious :))
thanks guys!!

What kind of light is it? If it's just an infrared light you can keep it on all night because they can't see the light.

It's a reptileone Infared heat lamp, it's like lighting up Red the whole enclosure haha but i usually switch it off at night the temp stays decent till i wake up switch it back on

no worries, thanks mate! any idea if the 75w might be too hot for her? she most of the time chillin under it but now after a feed and more wattage she off to the sideeee :(

might be cool to get a heatmat so you can run that also during the day and just the heatmat at night

It might be that the old light wasn't hot enough so she had to spend more of her time there? haha. It's fine if she's off to the side. They move to where they're at the temperature they want to be at.

Yeah i think the 50w was too cold tbh, and @Grogshla with my enclosure i can't really run a heat mat as i have a custom made one with a drawer under my flooring :)

You could always put a heat mat under a tile. Just cut some strips of tile to put around the underside of the top tile so it is up off the ground to allow air flow and stick the heat mat up under the tile like normal. It works fantastic and looks pretty good too. The snakes seem to love it.

Thanks everyone for the tips & ideas!! Greatly appreciated. The light is a bit too much for the enclosure i think as after a number of hours i could smell the wood burning, the light cage is only ment for a 50w i think :) I'll be getting a timed powerboard this week, have the light on 7am-7pm on cycle like that everyday, should work well. :)

If you can smell wood burning, TURN IT OFF. The snake may die of inhalation of toxic gases. If 50W worked OK, stick with it. Just because some warmth is good doesn't mean more heat is better. Too much heat kills snakes within minutes - too little is easy to fix and you have days or weeks to get it right.

Yeah i understand that, but i wouldn't think 75w would be that hot?? With the new bulb the temp is sitting where it should be between 28-35 usually in the middle somewhere! With the 50w it struggles to hit 30 even after 12 hours of being on :(

Give you a bit more info, it smells kind of like a sauna if you have ever been in one! But it's only if i take the light out of the wooden enclosure thing and stick my head in there, i opened the enclosure doors put my head in couldnt smell the fumes at all!! The temp is sitting at 27ish with the 75w, it would be way to cold with a 50w, i dnno what to do its either too hot or too cold?

Well, there doesn't seem to be any reason to panic at this stage, as long as the temps don't get too hot. How old is the snake.? if it's a sub-adult or adult it will be fine with the cooler temps for a month or two until the days begin to warm. If it's a youngster (you don't say if it's fuzzy mice or rats...) than maybe you should look at a heat cord (15W) which can be arranged to give very gentle bottom heat, something that pythons love - your snake can move onto or off it as it pleases. It will also use 4 times less electricity than the heat globe. They're not expensive, last for years and are very economical to run. I haven't use lights or heat emitters for over 12 years, always my heat device of choice is heat cords.

The heat buildup from long close exposure to a 75W heat source is very significant - I've seen fires caused by improperly installed 7W heat mats - you'd never think it was possible...
