Ok so its been a month since my coastal carpet has been all better for her R.I after injecting her with needles from the vet, and now its been a good 6/9months since she ate so i am freaking out, at first i thought yea its winter she is in hibernation, but after taking her to the vet and getting her all better she still isnt eating and im going crazy! its really just frustrating, ive tried giving her rats, mice, quail, warming her up more and so on, i even asked the old owner and he said to feed her mate infront of her so she remembers what to do, which i done and she still isnt eating.. so yea

At the moment shes on 28.7 is that ok? she has shed twice since shes been better

Ohk thanks guys :) ill jump it up and let you know how i go

How old is your female?
What are the night time temps getting to in the room she's in?
Are you providing her with heat at night?
Has she lost any body condition since she's stopped eating?

Most of what you have provided to me points to her not being warm enough.
Sometimes they will put themselves off their food as it is an instinct to do so during the cooler months.

Once you bump up the temps a bit like others have mentioned, give her a week and offer her a rat with its head dipped in raw egg.

Hopefully she will start eating for you.

Cheers.

Just wented and checked the temp and its on 31.5 now, thanks to the dryer in there :) usually drops done to 25 at night but nothing cooler, yea she has started to get really skinny now, thats why im freaking, i was going to try n feed her again now? and she is a good 3/4 years old

last night about a hour after she shed, tried a pinkie rat and a day old quail with no luck, her mate ate quite happily thou :\

Have you got a small rat or medium sized rat to offer?
A pinky rat would be way to small for a 3/4 year old python. Even if it only ate 1 feed a month its whole life.

Give her another day or 2 then offer a medium rat with some egg on its head around dusk.
That should do the trick.

I'd leave her alone for a few days at least with the higher temperatures but it could take longer than that. Try to get your hands on a freshly killed rat (fuzzy not pinky). I find with some of my fussy feeders they dislike pink rats, but will eat anything with hair.

Edit: I didn't realise she was 3-4 years old, as mentioned above you will probably need something bigger than a fuzzy rat then.

I tried to just feed her something small to get her to eat at least, we breed our rats so i have heaps on tap lol, ive never heard of dipping their heads on egg, ill give it a go because i have nothing to loose thou, i really appreciate it guys :) love having people to talk to and help out

Larger snakes will have no interest in food the size of a pinky rat - they can't manoeuvre them in their mouths. A 3-4 yo carpet will easily take an adult rat - that's what you should offer. Even hatchy carpets prefer fuzzy mice/small weaners for their first meals - pinky rats & mice are unattractive to many snakes.

Quite often after RI snakes take a long time to start feeding again
Fresh killed is better to get them going again
Maintain high temps for a few weeks
RI can come back and usually comes back worse

Totally agree with previous post
Adult rat

adult rat is easily done, i moved her heat mat from under the cage to in it so she will be warmer and am going to buy a cage for my heat lamp tomorrow to put in aswell because her heat mat was keeping it at 29ish and i thought that was enough

20 something temps just aren't high enough especially for a snake thats had R.I.
imo you need 33-34c to change its head space about eating, at least 1/3 of your enclosure needs to be around these temps, its my advice jack the temps up leave him/her for 3-4 at those temps and then try again
.....cheers solar 17 (Baden)

Well its been 2days now with the temps up at between 31/32 so ill give it a go in another 2days and see how i go, i just have my fingers crossed it isnt too late and she will bounce back and start eating again
