THREE kamikaze frogs killed off an air-conditoning unit at a Stuart Park property, setting themselves on fire in the process of rendering the old machine useless and exposing a family to the dangers of a long, long Build Up
Plumber and refrigeration mechanic Dale Bicheno was called to a Stuart Park property a few weeks ago to investigate a broken airconditioner.
In the outside unit he found three charred frogs.
“Sometimes you get ants in units or power points but I’ve never seen frogs,” he said.
“They thought they were getting comfy there, found a little hibernation spot until the aircon was turned on.
“They set themselves on fire. One shorted out a wire and lit the others up.”

Mr Bicheno said the frogs likely crawled through a pipe.
“They were green tree frogs for sure, the lovely little fellas you find in the garden this time of year,” he said.
He said several of the wires were damaged and the fire rendered the old machine useless.
“It cost about $2000 to replace, the aircon wasn’t serviceable,” he said.
“It was lucky the fire didn’t spread to the house. It must have gone off with a bang.”
“It’s weather proof but doesn’t stop frogs.”
