Did anyone see Austin Stephens last night ? That guys is a couple of cans short of a six pack I think!

Good viewing none the less as he tried to find a giant retic in Borneo. The snake was literally chasing him accross a clearing after he'd antagonized it enough. Biggest retic I have ever seen on any doco for sure.

Keep an eye out for it :)

I watched it before work this morning. It reminds me of that "King of the Jungle" series they have had on Animal Planet. What I found odd about this series is that it defined what they thought was important in presenting animals shows. If one uses this as a guide Austin Stephens has what it takes in spades.

Unfortunately for me I find it somewhat superficial. What you tend to get is a (pseudo) brief close encounter with the animal. Often the excuse given is that this is to take photographs.... Hello - There is a whole film crew doing that for you!

Unless the presentations go a little deeper and look at the environment, ecology, evolution etc. they tend to leave me a little flat. Mind you, if they are about reptiles I will probably watch them anyway!

i was watching one of his shows. i think it was his top ten deadlist snakes in south africa. he got tagged by a cobra. it diddn't like stab him more of a slice with a fang. they kept the camera rolling did medical stuff, he went to the hospital. then came back and got the same snake again and got the photo he wanted.

also i saw his search for the gian anaconda. he wrestled an anaconda and pulled it out on land. massive snake!

that wouldve been the one where it was the last day of filming and he spotted the ana from the boat and swan dived into the water, matrix style (i kid u not, they actually used that effect) and wrestled it.

there would have to be camera men on shore to get the shot and alot of time taken to set it all up the way he did. it was complete bs as alot of docos are, but ppl love watching that crap

the snake he did the swan dive to catch was a different snake than the anaconda he wrestled. they probably just made him swan dive again to get that matrix thing.

also that matix thing is basically a 1/4 0 with lost of cameras on it which all take a photo at the same time so you can scroll between them like a video!

SLACkra,
Austin told me that he broke his shoulder diving off that boat.
It was alot higher than he thought!
Of course nearly all doco's are set-ups as they haven't the time or money
It could take months to actualy find the species they require so most of the animals are captive. The only exception I know of is Mark O'shea who refuses to fake it.

Faked or not, that was a impressive retic. Had to easily be 20ft long. Biggggg snake.

Wait till you see the one on scrubbies, have you seen it bwana

Dont wanta wreck it for you, but its a classic, not sure if its out yet. austin stevens snake master....ha, didnt use to mind the guy.

yeah, its the scrubby with its its face bleeding. Its made a good recovery now, after the pneumonia, canker and the scabs all over its face.

I was barracking for her to nail him, but she must of been too sick.

WTF? They made it's face bleed? People keeping animals in those conditions are low bastards.

Yeh,
I got a copy send a couple of weeks ago from Tigress Production.
Yeh Pike1 it made me laugh. Couple of mistakes he claims that scrub python are more elusive than Taipans.
But it was hard to concentrate on your lines when a cane fire is burning your back we all had blisters on the back on our necks.
We redid some of the scrubbie shots again so maybe you will notice a difference in snakes.
As far as handling the snakes go Austin knows what he is doing and has been doing it for decades.
Although we did have a few words over the grabstick which he said was his "Trademark" after I handed him a large taipan he actually surprised me, very gentle on the snake. he is a real herp.
I was talking to them after I recieved the tape and was told Austin was now filming Komodo dragons in Indonesia. He has a good job.

Hey there Bwana (me little buddy of 23 years.... :D )

Gotcha a job BAS, get that passport renewed and pack ya bags ... the reticulated python 'mythbuster' show is going ahead, so its back off to Malaysia to play with Tiny...

retic-1.jpg

We're using force transducers to measure constriction pressure and mate, you know you're up for it ... I need someone to hold the transducer while Tiny does her thing ...

So what'dya say BAS ol' mate ... are you up for it? I'll phone ya tomorrow afternoon

Cheers

Dave

PS: For the benefit of others ... "Tiny" is a 7.31 metre female reticulated python from the Kedah region of Peninsular Malaysia, and like many ladies of her ummm amplly voluptuous proportions ... she isn't exactly timid

G'day Dave,
God it's huge! The thing could eat me, honestly it's big enough.
My Passport still valid until August. But yeah I'll get on to it.
I'm up for it if the price is right.
"Bwana, come on down you're the next contestant on Who's wants to be gobbled by a monster retic."
Looks forward to your call.
BAS

Mate ... we're gunna dip ya in monkey juice and dangle ya like a pinkie ...

If the little sweetheart didn't baulk at sizing me up, can ya imagine what she'll think of you after we've given ya a baby orang-utan to cuddle in ya last minutes ...

This show is gunna be so much fun ... all the technological stops are being pulled out to prove that a retic this size CANNOT swallow a human ... and then you'll come along and prove us all wrong

I'll fill ya in on the nitty gritty tomorrow ...

Cheers
