Thats seems to be a great system if your a fan of AMD, Good for that kinda budget and should run most things no probs.
Its mainly about how much money you want to spend and what you want to get out of it.
Ways to improve on that system would be buy a good sound card for it and maybe throw in another vid card and run them side by side if the motherboard allows.
But these are just options if you have the money and arnt really needed for most games, unless you want the best of the best.

If you want a really good games machine, but a gaming console... (PS3, xbox, take your pick,) for a decent dedicated PC gaming machine i'd be expecting a bill of around $2000. Playstations are cheaper, have less hiccups with software conflicts, and with the change you can by a few beers and have your mates around to play the latest craze

Lol bugger a console there games are harder to pirate lol.
Keyboard and mouse over a controller any day.

Thank you Bez84 for the reply, Yeah im pretty much a noob when it comes to computers don't know allot really and my pc I have right now is really old maybe 10years so its time for a upgrade just want something that's not to expensive but is good enough to play games like cod black opps and look good on it still.

I have a PS3 but my computer is pretty much ahd it so thought if I am getting another 1 id want to have the option of playing games on it as well, I'm no way near the hardcore gamer but would like to use it for some games now and then.

ditch your vid card if you can afford it buy a AMD RadeonHD 6870 Graphics
there not that pricey but well worth the money im running two of them in my computer and i will never change

AMD Radeon™ HD 6870 graphics

mike83 - Be careful buying from itestate. They are pretty dodgy and have been raided by the Police 3 times now (they tend to source things from less than legitimate locations).

Check out staticICE - Compare Prices - Australia - Price comparison for gadgets and computer hardware for a good price comparison site. If you are located in Melbourne, check out PC Case Gear, otherwise I would suggest your local MSY store.

The GTX 460 is a good card. Unless you are mad keen on AMD, I would suggest checking out a core i5 system - They are better value for money than anything else at the moment (price / performance wise).

Thanks for the heads up about them.

$2000 is a bit over the top.

I would say about $1000 - $1300 for the base system (assuming keeping the monitor, keyboard and mouse from the old system) is fine for a good PC gaming system. I recently spent ~$1800 on a new PC, but ~$550 of that was on SSDs, which are definitely not needed, and all of the other component prices have come down since then (My machine is able to play all of the latest games at max settings without breaking a sweat).

SSD's are amazing thier price will drop eventually but atm im running 2 of them at 1gb each

Hey mate,

I bought my Gaming PC 2 years ago for $2500 which i have 2 x 9600gt Superclocked graphics cards, running at SLi which is 2 at once to enhance the graphics of a game. I would highly recommend going with SLI graphics card set-up, i don't know whether i would bother getting a sound card as they take up an awful amount of storage space.

Thanks for the heads up about them.

No worries :)

Thought you might like to see a list of components I recommended to a friend for a gaming rig recently (I'll leave the prices in, but they are probably out of date now, as this list was put together last month). He had a budget of $1000 and an old machine that we could scavenge some parts from (optical drive, etc).

Motherboard: Asus P7P55 LX - 125
CPU: i5 760 - 229
RAM: Kingston ValueRAM KVR1333D3N9K2/4G 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 - 98
Case: Antec New Solution VSK-2000 Case - 68
PSU: Antec TruePower 750W Blue - 154
Video: ASUS GeForce GTX 460 Direct CU 1GB - 275
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX - 109

Total: $1058 + shipping from pccasegear

SSDs are fantastic. I have three running in a RAID0 array. There is no upgrade that will improve the "snap" of your machine as much as a SSD :D

I payed $699 for my lappy from jb high fi, runs solitare perfectly ;)

All the gaming i need :)
