Hi there,

This is my first time posting, and I hope these questions haven't been answered before. Two weeks ago we got 2 baby ELN's, one a bit smaller than the other but about 5cm long. The bigger of the 2 has started to lose skin around his neck, is this normal? The smaller one spends alot of time out of the water near (but not under) the basking lamp, whereas the bigger of the 2 hasn't been out yet!!! And finally, we are feeding them a mix of blood worms and brine shrimp but want to give them some vegies, can anyone suggest something to start them off with??? Sorry for all the questions but I just want to give the little guys the best start I can.

Please help :)

Why do you want to feed them vegies? I am not aware of vegies being a significant part of their natural diet.

We feed ours home made turtle cubes made out of all sorts stuff including kangaroo mince, marinara mix, white bait, Speckled Feeder Roaches, Calcium, Herp-t-vite to which I usually add a small amount of spinach, all blended and set in gelatine (and cut into cubes and frozen).

I am sure that some vegetable matter is ok. I add the spinach in lieu of what they might normally might get out the gut of animals they would catch in the wild.

Oh ok, I thought they needed some form of vegetation or plants to eat, but if they are fine on just meat I will keep at that for a while. We tried to turtle blocks but they weren't interested at all.

put aquarium plants in there, although there not like short neck that trash plants top to bottom, they will enjoy the occassional nibble

The turtle blocks I know of are the white calcium ones. I have never had an adult ELN not get excited about the roo based meat cubes I make. They climb over each other to get at them.
