im building a 5w x 3h x 2d accie enclosure out of white melamine. i know for monitors you need a basking spot with a temp of 50c-70c. im thinking of using downlights or floodlights, though not sure what wattage would give me these temperatures. if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.
cheers, ben.

I use down lights. But what you want is a stack (man-made mountain) situated directly under the light for the ackie to climb up to so he has multi-levels of varying heat he can choose. The very top of the stack should be the hottest point. But in saying this, you need his cool end to be around 28c so concentrate on acquiring that temperature, then you can build up his mountain under the light to give him his hotter basking spots.

Heat

for all of my small monitors i use 100 watt spot lamps from Bunnings and find that they get it hot enough for them, if you want to use down lights use the ones with a narrower spread angle to spot the heat to were you want it to go just build a housing for them but allow ventilation for the down light or they will overheat. Hope that helps that is how i do it.
