I have recently got a 3month old hypo bredli who is a beautiful little fellar but has not previously been handled. This means he tends to be a bit pyscho..and by that i mean he will have a go at anything!! I cant change his water or check temperatures without a flying attack.

Now dont hear me complaining cause i think its great hes such a get go-er but im just wondering because i dont have a huge amount of experience, but what is the best way to handle him to get him used to things?

He seems very skittish and afraid of all movement so iv been really slow and gentle and I support his whole body of course but are there any other tips from the more experienced as to what i could do better?

Dont touch it with bare hands
Hot sweaty human is the last thing they want to feel
use a tea towel or something similar
After a while it will associate the cloth with being handled
Easy

just keep getting it out use gloves or something or make sure your hands are fully dry. mine was the same but calmed dow after a month or so. good luck

Don't procrastinate

Yeh.....I got my skittish yearling Bredli last Nov and I waited for her to settle down for a while before attemting to handle. And waited, and waited.
Finally after 6 months I had to take her out to clean the enclosure. Couldn't get anywhere near her so got her to come to me by lifting her out with a hook. Totally different snake once out and on my hand.
Obviously felt threatened IN enclosure but more accepting once out. Funny that my Childrens python is the same.
We're good friends now. :D

i dont have any advice for ya just wanted to say i hope it works out for ya i got a 5month old bredli hatchy but shes the opposite to yours so well natured so im hoping your little fella turns out the same for u just be persistant and he'll be your best friend soon

just cop the bite. in my experience bredli tend to be a little snappy when young, in my case they were snappy until about 3-4 years old, and 3-4kg. some grow out of it, some don't. there are exceptions to every rule.

i am also a firm believer that regular handling and them associating your hand, or a towel, or anything else for that matter, as handling and learning not to bite it is a load of rubbish. i have had snappy snakes come good with no handling outside of removal from their enclosure for cleaning. the only thing i know they will associate a bite with is a prey item.

i got a diamond for free off my mates 14year old cousin cause he had troubles with it biting him.his step father tried arm lenght gloves to get it out of tank to feed but it was too much work for him.
I just stuck my hand in there to get biten to see what the fuss was about[i was told to harden the **** up. i founded out he only likes fingers not arms or wrist so i used to close my fingers like i was boxing.he was not interested in my big hands maybe cause he could not eat them, than he was fine[ fingers maybe the small size as a mouse or rat so he was seeing fingers as food] now he is doing good a 100% better. thou he looks at me some times like he wants to eat me haha
