BHP hatchling question...

Would a 4',2',2' enclosure be suitable for a BHP hatchling if I partition it in half for the first six months of its life?

It would be ok for 12 to 18 months then you will need something bigger.

If the living conditions (temps, hides, etc.) in the 4 footer are adequate then I wouldn't bother with a partition. If fed regularly, it won't stay small for too long anyhow.

Just be aware that if you do start to have problems (not eating, etc.) and you're positive temps/hides are adequate and it has had time to settle in, then the first thing to look at would be moving it into a tub or similar.

Thanks Rob I will keep that in mind.

Also what size heat cord would be best suited for a 4',2',2' enclosure.

Thanks

I would think a 3.0 metre 15w would be fine, but you'd have to test it in your environment to see what sort of temps you get. Of course, there are other factors to consider - ambient room temps, etc. i.e. if it gets cold in the cooler months you may need a higher wattage for then.

Cheers Ill give that a test run and see how it goes.

I was hoping a 40w infrared bulb on a dimming thermostat would compensate for the drop in ambient room temp in the cooler months.

The bulb may be sufficient, but you may not need it. Only you know how cold it gets in the room where your snake will be, so you will just have to use your own judgement. You've probably already worked out that there is no exact way to do this. It is all about trying different things and working out what works best in your environment.
