hey guys
my 3rd heatlamp just blew in 3 weeks  im pretty sure my wiring is all perfect... the heatlamps that have blown have been 150w im thinkin maybe its too higher wattage for the imit thermostat could this be possible? any ideas how to fix the prob?
i have also started building my stand for my cage and am goin to build a incubtor in it... whats the best insulation to use between 2 bits of wood cos im think either rubber insul or standard roof insul

what brand is it? i was warned off buying a heat glo infra red recently cos there is a bad batch going around that are blowing really quickly apparently.

its the exo terra infrared heat glow... not happy especially when they are $27 each

one thing you could consider looking into is buying a ceramic heat emitter. i know they are expensive but if you only have a few cages they can be really effective. at the moment i have most of my enclosures on infra reds or just plain light globes and they seem to bust every coupla months, but, i have one cage with a ceramic heat emitter and after four years it is still going strong! just something to think about.

I've been try out the dark globes from the herp shop for the last few months and they seem to last really well, i've had them last for about 4 months, they cost $8.50ea. They also look really good a weird purple/blue color but it's not very bright which is a good thing.

Neven,
I would suggest a dimmerstat thermostat, like the one's made by Habistat, there expensive, but they will make your bulbs last alot longer, save electric in the long run, no on/off light stress on the animals, and at the right your getting through bulbs, they are cheap!
The thermostat's also have a 5 yr guarantee, I still have one I've had for 8 yrs.

Just something you could consider!

Neil

Ouch Nev! I agree with the ceramic idea - I've been running them for a few years now without problems. Expensive initially, but they pay off in the long run. Trouble is, you'd have to fit a light for viewing as well.

yeh im goin to give the herp shop a visit this week n get a few of the 8.50 globes... just wondering there are two types... one bluey kinda colour the other like a normal infrared... will the blue one effect their sleep? cos i no they cant see red but wouldnt they be able to see blue? (talkin bout beardies)

I reckon the ceramics are great, $29 ea at Herp shop. Also I use a heat cord($32) for a juvie bredli and it does a good job at 50w, attached to thermostat as it gets very hot.

Try some simple blue or red globes from Herp Shop...

I'm colourblind to a degree but they work well for me in my main display enclosure.............

i think the blue is supposed to simulate moonlight or something? where as they arent sposed to be able to see infra red... :?

the economy infra-reds from the herp shop are quite bright...no one do u find the blue globes darker than the reds?

there are heaps of better globe options around at some excellent prices you just have to look in the right spots :)

wasnt intended to be... but hey take it how you will my friend

ive been impressed witht the prices on your website stockeh, i wish there was a shop like you near me... bloody reptile barn!

I find the dark globes (blue ones) really good they heat well, have a good life and they are not a bright globe very dark and don't interupt night cycles.
I don't like ceramics but thats me, heat panels are a much better choice last forever and don't get anywhere near as hot as ceramics.

Pro products heat panels from the US come with a 10yr warrenty. The herpshop has heat panels but i don't know what brand, i've only used pro product panels.

I run ceramics on my heat lights and hardly have to change my lights. I get good life out of my lights. Also I have just started to use the energy saver style lights which are a little more expensive then normal globes but last longer.
