hi all

just wondering if it is normal to hear ur pythons breath heavily or is just me
i can hear him breathing and its quiet loud,he is a 2 year old carpet ???

one of my darwins makes a whistling noise when he breaths, been doing it for ages now, really only when hes being handled as he stresses a bit i think, ive read other ppls post on here of their snakes doing it too, yet never really seen an answer to it.

coul it be an RI?

sorry to hyjack your thread

thanks for the input guys funny enough mine makes a whistling noise as well

back to the topic...

If you suspect that you snake as an RI then bump up the heat a couple of degrees... see if this helps.

Also, one of mine was doing the same thing and as soon as he shed the noise was gone. He had a build up of skin on his nose.

If all else fails, take it to the vet.

You'll probably have to inject fortum (ceftazidime) daily if he has an RI. This might require assistance as snakes generally wiggle a little when you try to perform a subcutaneous injection - assuming an RI that is.

i just had another look at him and he seems to have a small bit of dust or somthing in his nostril but its so small to get out?

I noticed my SA womas used to make squeeking noises when they were coming up to a shed when they were younger. Now that they're older they don't seem to do it.

I had a large carpet once that started squeeking and upon closer inspection I found a scale that hadn't quite shed over his nostril. When I removed this the squeeking stopped.

I hope this is the same for your snake... Good luck...

Does it look like skin? what ever it is it will come out once he sheds.

Good luck

great man, That should clear up... if you want try giving him a luke warm bath and dunk his head in the water for a few seconds, it might help him clear it up faster.

Hey guys,
I read these forums a bit but have never posted before. This sounded familiar though. My atherton has always had a funny kind of breath/sqeak when he is moving with effort (such as when handling etc). Has always had it from a hatchling and is perfectly healthy (he is now 6-7 years old). Only difference from when he was a hatchling is that he makes it less due to straining less and its louder when he does. I suspect he just has a funny shaped nasal passage

Some odd opinions here,so heres my 5 cents..i have friends who have bred snakes for well over 30 years..and they tell me a snake CAN love an owner.not always wiill.. but can,.and have just as much of a bond as any cat or dog.and after watching him with snakes hes had for 15 yrs n ****.. i believe him.dont get me wrong im not saying lets all get our snakes out and take em for a walk, but when i open my jungles enclosure and put my hand in,,she comes to me..she crawls up My arm..what cos she thinks im a tree??..doubt it. she loves me! 8)..well i like to think so.

i agree with ya mate my snakes come to me and crawl up my arms and stuff, and if a dog or cat didnt like u he/she wouldnt come to u so thats love
