Hi i am trying to find info on how to breed and care for meal worms does antone have any info or know how to if so your help will be appreciated alot.
Cheers ben

hey i started breeding them about a year ago and was told to set up to containers with hesian on the bottom, a 2inc layer of bran then another piece of hesian and a few bits of carrot on top. when the mealies turn in to little black bugs put them into the other container set up the same, and i keep the top heisan of that one slightly damp. it seems to work ok, they take a long time to grow though! so i always have some spare in the fridge, i just started mine up about a month ago now and the first of the mealies eggs are now hatching out and there are a few babymealis around!
hope this helps!

No its complety different to crickets

The best way to do it is in ice cream containers filled 1/3 of the way up with 50:50 bran and polard (you can use just bran)
U then put a piece of newspaper on to and put a piece of carrot on top of that every few days.
Dont spray with water or get the bran wet or they will die
If you want fast growth keep them warm
You can keep the whole colony in one tub but it is best to remove them when they go into pupae as the beetles and worm will eat them, also by separating you will have some idea of average size and age.
There is some health issues caused by mealworms as they are hard to digest.
Mealworms raised on bran also inhibit calcium absorbtion as outline in this webpage by GeckoDan The Pro?s and Con?s of Mealworms as a food for reptiles
