Hey guys, i've been keeping pythons for a while now and I want to one day breed them... I just thought I would ask, what are some of the fundamentals(spelling) you need to know and have before you take the leap?

Thanks :)

^That

Also, some of the things I've noticed that aren't in books are: time, patience and money.
Whereas with adult snakes you can only look at them once a week, eggs need a fairly decent amount of observation. Babies also need a bit more time for cleaning (mostly because you've just gone from two snakes to 15 or so basically overnight). You also need to be patient with difficult or non-feeders. You also need patience with the stupid buyers/tyre kickers you will inevitably encounter when you attempt to sell them. You also need to be prepared for the rising electricity bill for warming a bunch of snakes and also for feeding if you have a hard time offloading them.
I hope that doesn't discourage you but they are a couple of things I think a lot of new breeders forget to consider

and also recomend spending a bit of time getting to know some one who is well experianced with breeding who can help out or offer advice should something go wrong.

I do actually posses that book, I just thought getting other peoples opions of what you would have to own before your female drops her eggs and some specific tips on incubation and dealing with those hatchlings... I havent seen a thread like this so I thought it would be good for not only me but the others here too.

Awesome book. I live by it. Best $50 odd bucks I have ever spent in this hobby. You might have to call a few book stores. Dymocks from Rouse Hill Town Center is where I got mine from. Most of the time they have at least 1 copy on hand.

Monitor your snakes and make sure you've got a set-up to put the eggs and then the hatchies in!
