Hi,

Any printer experts out there? I'm looking for a printer that won't cost me a bomb. (Funny, just as I wrote the word "bomb", something landed on the roof with a loud bang.) Wireless would be good (I detest cables), as would colour and copy/scanning ability. Otherwise, all I need is something that will print the occasional decent page - I'm not going to be producing glossy magazines on it. :)

I was looking at the HP Photosmart B110A Wireless Multifunction, which seems to be about what I'm aiming for. Any comments or other recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Renenet.

PS: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it would be nice if ink cartridge costs were also low.

I have a HP Deskjet 3050, it scans, copies, works wirelessly etc, think it was around $50 from office works, it actually costs more to buy the ink refills for it then the actual printer! but i'm sure you can get a generic one real cheap tht works with it. Works fine from what i've seen HTH

i have that printer , its not bad for the money . the cartridge cost arnt too bad [ i brought a few when they were on special]
i like how u can use yoyr special email address and print from any computer or even from your ipod or phone .

We have an Epson TX110- it was only around $100 at Officeworks- we are graphic designers/printers etc and print ALOT of sample designs, and this printer has lasted 2 years- cheaper Canons and some HP's in the past have lasted no longer than 3 or 4 months.

Epson cartridges are cheap and often bundled together to save $$$.

Ours has a printer/scanner/photocopier/fax all in one. Definitely recommend the low end Epsons in terms of reliability. Our model is no longer made, but if you check out Officeworks site their current low-end Epsons are just as cheap but with more features. Let us know how you decide and how it works out for you !

Thanks all. I might look at a low-end Epson. I don't mind spending a bit of extra money for something that's going to last longer - plus I have a gift voucher to spend at Officeworks! :D (Rubs hands together with glee.)

This one maybe?

I ended up with the Epson WorkForce 435. The thing is huge compared with my last printer, but I guess it's allowed to be because it does far more. So far so good, although I've only used it to print bank statements on plain paper.

sad thing is now days you can buy a new printer with ink in it cheaper than you can buy the ink refills lol

Tell me about it. I'd suggest that printer companies make most of their money from ink. They sell the printer as cheaply as they can because once they have you, your soul is theirs for as long as you have the printer. :)

I've found when you purchase a new printer, the ink cartridges run out very quickly. Compared to the replacements that get put in. Wouldnt surprise me 1 bit if the manufacturers only partially fill the cartridges the printers come with

There's an explanation for that, according to my quickstart guide. The first ink cartridges are "partly used to charge the print head. These cartridges may print fewer pages compared to subsequent ink cartridges."

With the disclaimer that I know nothing about printers, it sounds plausible to me.
