Was cleaning out my BHP's enclosure yesterday and after I removed a rock little bugs came running out from underneath, maybe a dozen or so? They're maybe 2-3mm long with a dark head and bum and white/cream/yellowy middle. Didn't look like mites though and my snake is clean.

Just some extra info, there are a few tiny flying bugs in the house, in the same room as the enclosure. They're absolutely tiny, nearly impossible to see and when flying look a little like white lint/speck of dust floating in the air. We've had a recent run of warm weather in Melbourne, possible connection?

I tried to get some pics of the bugs (in the cage) but they're so super small that the macro on my point-and-shoot was having a hard time coping, so please forgive the blurriness. Any idea what they are? Are they a problem to my snake? How do i get rid of them?

Thanks for your help everyone!

They won't harm your snake...small flying bugs will be a different species. Fruit flies attracted to old fruit and vegies maybe. None of them will worry the snake, might be time to catch up on the housework though.

Oh good. And yeah, i think the cage bugs are one thing, while I have a suspicion that the flying things are whiteflies.
Not my house, but I'll tell the occupants to get cracking with their cleaning =P

I believe you. But most importantly, they can't harm her, right? Just want to be clear on that

Thanks for the help, I'll let the residents know so they can get to cleaning and preventing an infestation (or at least stop it from furthering).

If you have some Top of Descent you spray that into the enclosure and that will kill what cockies are there. Alternatively a few cockroach stations/baits around the room and one in the enclosure where the snake cannot swallow it - no that it is the least likely to do so but it doesn't hurt to be sure. Alternatively, rehouse the snake for a couple of nights while you the bait does its thing. I recently read a thread where they talked about a really effective cockroach bait. I cannot remeber the details but I will see if I can find it and let you know.

Coachroaches...?..... not a big deal. I wouldn't spray anything just give the enclosure a good clean with water including the rock. Isn't it funny that the snakes want to escape the enclosures while bugs can't wait to get in lol

really effective cockroach bait is called max force cockroach gel and is availbale from some hardwares.

its a brown paste that the professionals use,...but is probably a bit extreme in this case,.. :)

id just use a papertowel and squash them!! :)
if you can locate where theyre coming from drop the object in a bucket of hot water,...

How to get rid of the bugs.........

Step 1; Remove snake.

Step 2; Drop Beardie in.

Step 3; Sit back and watch the fun.:):):)
