Feeling this is going to be a pretty newb question but anyway..

Last couple of feeds we've noticed our stimi been hitting the fuzzy in the mid section then swallowing the bum first.

Definitely looks harder for her to get it down that way. Head first seem to take a bit of time to get over the shoulders then the fuzzy slides on down. Bum first she looks to be working really hard the whole way.

is this normal or should we be dangling the fuzzy a bit higher to encourage her to hit the head?

It is a lot harder, but as long as they get it down, it's okay in the end. I once watched my Darwin swallow a quail SIDEWAYS! That was an amazing stretch. If you can get her to hit the head, great. I find that most of mine will constrict, then let go and decide where to swallow from. At that point it doesn't matter where they hit it. My BHP often mouths the tail end first before deciding to find the head, but some snakes just start where they start. As long as they feed, don't worry over much. It's something you can't teach them.

eating butt 1st can also indicate a bigger food item may be needed mine did the butt 1st thing
then somone told me they will eat butt 1st if its a small item and they dont need to go the easy way (head 1st)
i swapped to bigger item and she goes head 1st now

Natorey beat me to it, when my coastal starting eating butt first i took it as a sign that it was time to upsize, even though what she was eating left a visible lump, you'll probably find that if you go up a size it will go back to head first.

the cat- pythons normally can tell the differance between the head and the bottom of the food item in the wild, when they coil around the pray item this causes pressure in the brain causing a brain hemorrhage ( brain explodes causing major blood loss).you will see your snake will offen smell up and down the pray item before digestion, when this is done the snake is smelling for the brain hemorrhage so to know which end to start diestion from.
some people make a small cut behind the brain on food items so ur snake can pick up the sent better.

i have had a python end end first but after a while corrected it self

It won't hurt it. Mine do it from time to time. As the above guys said, an upsize may change this if it is bothering you, but I wouldn't be too worried.

Fed my bredli 2 medium rats last night, one went bum first the went head first..I just laughed at her sniffing the rats genitals before eating it haha

My idiot jungle was fed the other day and started to eat his rat by one of it's legs, after a few minutes he figured out why it wasn't working and ate it head-first

My swcp ate **** first the other day, all good no issues, however i did ask this question somewhere else as my stimmy had never done it

Cheers all.

I didn't think it would be too much of an issue. First time we just laughed but then the next two feed she ate the same way and the last fuzzy (in the video) seemed to take her forever to get down, after which all the jaw stretches made me think maybe it might be hurting.

She's just over a year old, 50mm long currently eating 2 fuzzys once a week, not sure if she'd handle something bigger just yet but will try the slit in the back of the head thing

Last week it was bum first this week upside down lol
