i was just reading the thread "juvenile maculosa" and it got me thinking, what does everyone think that the best themes for different snakes are etc red sand, dessert, rain forrest??
i am mostly wondering about the morelia:
diamonds:
bredli:
NT:
coastals:
jungles:
etc

but if anyone wants to add their own setups with Eg: maccies, childreni, woma, BHP etc thats kool

cheers

Hi,
Well i haven't actually done this yet, but i was thinkin for my Bredl to put in a nice rock wall with hides and a water bowl built in, with some nice red dessert sand. And a couple of nice big branches, and make everything look like the bredls natural environemt.
Cheers

HI,
In theory I have already overcome those problems. I am going to mould the polystyrene, and then cover it in fibreglass resin, which apparently seals it really well. Now that that is solved I will be using a normal water bowl but I was thinking of cutting a hole out of my rock wall for it to fit in so it looks kind of like a waterhole. I dont if this will work, but we shall see. The sealing part definetly works, as it is what TWP uses, but I am not sure about the water bowl.
Cheers

Oh yeah the reason i am going to put the water bowl in the hole instead of just built in to the wall, is so that I can still remove it when I need too.

Sheezus mayunnn!
The great substrate debate...

I like to use bare enclosures for all my snakes.A simple set-up with nothing more than substrate,a waterbowl and a hide.In regards to substrate, it comes down to personal choice.IMO substrate should be chosen for safety (especially when feeding) and cleaning ease before any aesthetic reasons.I use BC aka plastic and staples!

I agree with CC, when you have alot of herps theres alot of cleaning involed and keeping enclosures basic saves alot of time.

I use substrate, water bowl, hide and a branch if it's a climbing snake.
If using alot of decorations in a cage your always providing more hiding spots for mites and othe parasites so alot more cleaning needs to be done.

Like CC,my cages are bare.

I got for health more that looks.

Also take into when setting up ur enclosure things like Mites(god Forbid you ever get them)

But then you will know how had to get rid of them(Even with Top Of descent Spray)

Simple things like disinffecting the enclosure with become a pain.

You will be opening urself up for mouth canter, the substartes such as sand retain urine smells and odours.

I guess when you only have one snake you have a lot more time on your hands to make the cage look pretty.
I have a huge enclosure in my lounge room that looks pretty but thats the way I bought it. It isnt really practical but it looks nice.

i totally agree with what both NoOnE and junglesrus have said. i keep my maccies and NT's in enclosures with either BC or newspaper as substrate, hide box and water bowl (branch for the NT). but i have made up a nice enclosure and was wondering what would look best?? (as a display cage)

cheers
charles

My snakes are all in bare cages and will remain so. For a display cage, I am going to use my 6x2x2 aquarium, build a rocky backdrop for it and plant ferns and stuff. I will be putting my angle headed dragons and later boyds forest dragons in it.
In answer to MM though:
bredli: red sand, smooth red rocks
NT: water feature, vines and stuff
coastals: limestone backdrop, eucalypt type branches
jungles: Rainforest effect

I PERSONLY LIKE TO MAKE THIER SETUP'S AS REAL AS POSBLE AS IF THEY'VR OUT IN THE WILD. I USE TOP GRADE POTTING SOIL; REAL PLANTS;I HAVE A ROCK WATERFALL;AN REAL TREE BRANCHES;AN HAVE A SELF MISTING SYS.MY DOWNSTAIRS LOOKS LIKE A REPTILE HABATIT THAT BELONGS IN THE ZOO. I MAKE THESE FOR A LIVING. THEY ARN'T REALLY HARD TO KEEP CLEAN,I CHECK ON THEM DAILY AN IF THERES A MESS I CLEAN IT UP AND THE REST IS FERTERLIZER. I HAVE 10 SETUPS 3'X6'X6';AN 6 SET UPS 4'X4'X10' AN 1 SET UP 10'X8'X14' THATS FOR MY HEX BURMESE.I HAVE A FILTER SYS. ON ALL WATER FALLS.YES IT DOES TAKE SOME TIME BUT IF U LOVE U'R REPTS. WHATS ALITTLE TIME. I TRIED TO ADTACH SOME PICS. BUT ITS NOT WORKING OR I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG
