Ok seeming i am designing my herp room i thought get some ideas of here by making a cage/herp room thread. So would a cage 1800mmH x 1000mmW x 1000mmL be big enough for carpets (bredli's, diamonds, jungles etc.)? I will explain it when i finish drawing up the morelia cages.;)
Thanks Jordy

Ok i will explain it now so if it doesnt work i wont waste my time..
I am going to have a room for my herps, 8 meters long by 4 meters wide. Along the back wall where there are no windows so i am going to put 8 cages which measure 1800mmH x 1000mmL x 1000mmW. Before i concrete the room i am going to have a plumber fit all the pipes for drains, and in the middle of each cage i am going to have a drain so i can take a hose inside of the cage out and disinfectant them and rinse them down. That way the water will go away and i wont have to bucket it out. For bedding i am going to use mulch. The front of the cages are going to be a glass door. The cages are banked next to each other with no gaps so i have to work out what i am going to use what is water proof (i was thinking melamine but its going to be a display room, so i want something nice). On top of the cages sits a custom made fly screen. I am adding a box ontop so the cages will really measure 2200mmH to allow for space between the fly mesh and heat lamps. Inside the box i am going to have all the uvb tubes and heat lights (i am using uvb lights as they provide better viewing).

Sorta like the refridgerators in wollies and that. Except i have to work out where i am going to put some vents?

all sounds great, but not sure about the mulch as substrate, might have too many creepy crawlies in it, you wouldn't want them being over run by them. other than that sounds amazing, love the idea of a drain in each of them, but you're going to have to make sure everything is very water tight if you will be spraying it with a hose :)

To make it all waterproof (it is a bit pricey but fully wterproof) you could use fibreglass and then once its set paint it white. Ive seen this done for frog enclosures and figured it might work for your idea

Antaresia_boy i was thinking of using it but i thought abut it after i posted this. What do you think would look nice?

O yes the back is going to be painted black or if i have glass i will put a tinted window up so i can look in but they cant see me in the room behind where all the cords run. Chickensnake i am trying to make it less expensive as it will cost a lot atm. But if its the only why i can do it i will.

Bump... also if i pull out the divider would that be big enough for 3 adult ewd's?

i have 3 adult ewd in a 3 x 1.8 x 1.8 m ( length x height x width) aviary, would hate to see them in something much smaller then that

As A plumber I might be able to give you a few clues....

I suggest that you put floor waste gullies in each cage, more importantly you need to get bucket traps fixed into the inlet of the traps as you want an additional grate for snakes. Have all the these linked up and run to a drainage pit (outside) with an additional grate or bucket trap on its outlet to catch anything that should not be in the drain.....as for the waste water....it would need to legally go to sewer but dependant on the yard size you may be able to get it on too the garden.

As for waterproofing......Use fibre sheeting and fix to the wall get waterproofer to put in a membrane that will encompass the lower walls and floor....this will then fall into the FWG if you concrete is laid correctly.

if you want the doors to look really attractive.....speak to a shower screen supplier

To prevent glass fogging....ventilation below and above the doors work well.

Hope this helps

Scott
