Who has seen the pic of the Camel Spiders going around at the moment? If your wondering what I am talking about just type in Camel Spiders in your search engine.

Fake fake fake, the pic is taken (we are talking about the U.S troop holding up 2 together) at an angle that makes it look really big.

They are no bigger than 4-6 inches and only run at you cause the want to get in your shadow as they are a nocturnal creature.

yes yes they are only about as big as your hand but I still don't think I would like to meet one.

There is a vid on the web of one cowering in a corner as a scorpion eats it....or is it the spider eating the scorpion?? Give me half an hour, i'll get the link.

Someone asked me about this in another thread, I put in the real info about it here, page 2:

the creatures might just look unusually large because they were held close to the camera, creating an illusion of exaggerated size.
That's the case imo. Look at the size of the guys sleeve (and hand) close to the camera. Still, cool animals :)

they are arachnids, not insects. Of the family Solfugids (spelling?). also called sun spider, whip scorpion. Some people keep them as pets in the US and UK.

Nome, yeah, that was me talking about them in the other thread. You can tell that they're made to look bigger than they are, but they're still pretty amazing spiders. Well, yes, not spiders, but solifuges (Solifugidae).

Nome, do you know if there are Solifuges in Australia? I've read books that say there aren't, but I've also seen photos of them supposedly taken in Australia. Even the smaller ones are really cool (they look like 10 legged spiders because they walk on their pedipalps) with absurdly large fangs.

hey Sdaji,
There aren't any naturally here, but that doesn't mean that people don't have them here. We have 'whip scorpions' which look similar to them, that might have been the picture you saw. there jaws are incredible, on other spider forums, there are people that own them as pets, and they say they litterally tear the prey apart.

Hey, you should join up the spider forum, there is lotsa spidey talk there, and you seem like you don't mind spiders at all (one of the few  ).
