Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows if pythons can catch scabies?
A mate recently got treated with scabies and he has been handling my snake a lot. Hoping pythons are immune so i dont have to stress about her catching them.

It would be highly illogical since pythons are cold blooded and humans are not.

Scabies are a mite that burrows into your skin. What would being cold blooded or warm blooded have to do with it. It is possible if a few scabies mite got onto a snake.

ok so my next question is can scabies be fatal to the snake? if so ill need to make a trip to adelaide to get her checked out.

would the normal TOD treatment work on scabies mites?

sarcopties are host specific, but can cause irritation on other animals for a short period of time. so your snake will be fine.

fantastic. i had her checked about a month ago and she was fine so should be ok hopefully.
thanks a lot for the replys.
ill post another thread but what age should i try introducing a mating pair of bredli pythons?
the female is about 2 and the male is around 1
