Hi Guys
Just wondering if anyone knew if blotch blutongues could be housed outside in an aviary/pit in the mid north coast area. The hottest temperatures we get are around 37C and the winter cold is around 0C sometimes lower. Is this alright, I keep my eastern outside and hes fat adn healthy.
Cheers
Mark

should be just like the eastern.. so long as it can escape the heat under a rock or log or some good shade for on the warmer days.

Yeah, my eastern has shade and hides aswell. So you reckon they'd be fine being kept the same way the eastern is. And it only gets really hot in the sun anyway.

your in NSW and the temps you discribed are simillar to those that occur to thier natural range as well... is it a tin aivary or fairly open on three sides???

Havn't actually got an aviary to put them in. Just curious and now i might build one to suit them. Would they be able to be housed together. My eastern has a reputition of fighting in food time but only in food time so I'll just put more than one food bowl.

i keep mine together but i will seperate once they are old enough to breed. not sure if they can cross but dont want to find out either...

blotchies are way more cold hardy than easterns, even in areas where they both occur, meaning same locale, easterns and blotcheds have cross bred in the past, its not the norm though, but has happened, ive had both species together here and there over 29 years and not once did they cross, probably more likely if u had one of each sex, blotcheds are also the more dominant, ive found easterns stress more when with blotcheds,so probably best kept seperate,or at least given enough space to avoid constant contact

Yeah. If I do i'll make the enclosure huge and just have things like blueys that cant climb. We've got a vegie garden I could convert into an aviary (if I can convince my parents). The wire holes are to big but i'd just put tin along the whole sides of the aviary. The top just has a bird net but blueys wouldn't get that high anyway. I'd keep it there so no birds do get in. Its 3m long and 2.5m wide. Plenty big enough in my perspective. How many blotchies could I keep in that?
