Hey lads after my carpets pythons last shed the end of her tail is a bit messed up. About the last 4 mm are hard and crusty to the touch, and there are a couple patches of red swelling. I have dealt with scale rot in the past but never seen anything quite like this. Anyone have any insight as to what the problem may be, or even better, how I might fix it? Cheers.

it isnt a retained tail tip cutting off circulation is it ? sounds alot like it re the crusty tip redness pics will go a long way in helping people to help you , if its already started to kill it off then id say its to late ( if it is a retained tip ) to save it but you never know

burn? I'm not sure, I'll leave this to the experts. Good luck!

looks like a retained tip at the end....

its a retained tail tip mate like i thought made very obvious in the last pic where it is restricted in size like when you tie a rope around a tree , only the very very end though so not to bad wont be overly noticeable , and probably why it went unnoticed by you in the first place , should always pay close attention to the tail and eye caps

it looks like its to far gone to save id get it to a vet to get it properly removed and the proper care taken afterwards , it happens to them in the wild and they heal up ok but i wouldn't risk it in a pet

I do always check for retained shed, I dont know how I missed this for the life of me. It could take me some time to get to a vet. Just how bad of a situation is this? Is there anything I can do for her? Could it be life threatening to the snake even though its such a small portion?

Sooner or later it will start to get infected and and go necrotic. Keep it clean and dry till you get it to the vet. Is strongly recommend getting it to the vet ASAP. As far as a timeframe till it gets bad I can't help you there, but those things tend to get bad quick. So waiting isn't the best option.
