G'day guys,

As ERD continues to expand, we are starting to book a serious amounts of "snake pit" style shows. This work is incredibly rewarding, and you will have the opportunity to change the publics view of reptiles by the thousands over a weekend.

The work available is at some of our smaller shows. You will be required to assemble and dismantle the equipment (snake pit, photo tent, sound system, tables, laptops, photographry equipment etc - about 3 hours to assemble and 1.5 hours to dismantle), keep everything neat and tidy, interact with the public with a range of non-venomous reptiles, conduct a 30-45 minute education based show every 2 - 2.5 hours, answer questions, sell photo's/books/first aid kits and generally represent ERD. Due to the level of work involved, it is best suited to two people who work well together - especially a husband/wife set up.

This position is definitely not suitable as a full time job. I envisage that there will be 12-15 shows that we will need you to do per year on your own (shows are 1, 2 or 3 days), however your assistance may be required with other shows of myself or my partner can't attend. Due to the variable nature of the work, it is best suited to someone who works casually or runs their own business.

Payment will be worked out on a profit share sceme, and whilst it can be quite good money for the work involved, this should not be the motivation for your application.

Someone with elapid experience would be preferred, however isn't 100% necessary. You will have to be willing to learn though. You will need to be well presented, capable of public speaking, be able to deal with antagonists ("The only good snake is a dead snake" brigade"), trustworthy, hard working and knowledgable about Australian wildlife. We pride ourselves on NOT been yet another one of the "showman" style shows and live up to our name of Educational Reptile Displays.

Any questions, please PM me.

Cheers

Sounds great! The only problem for me is that I live in SA. :( If there was something like that down here, that would be great. :D It would also challenge a lot of people's wrong perceptions of snakes. Good on you, keep up the good work!

Hope you find the right person/people

What sort of licences are required? (if any)
