I recently purchased a childrens python and when i got it home i noticed a couple of things wrong with it,

The first was it has a groove under its belly towards near close to the mouth of the snake, i never noticed this when i purchased it until i got it home. I have other snakes and have never seen this before. It is a deep grove and is not normal.

Im about to post photos but till i do does anyone know what this could be?

I have never seen anything like this on my other pythons and the groove is actually deep its as if the muscles or tissue is damged ?

It may have had the problem from birth. The picture is too blurry to tell, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of injury (i.e. healed wounds), so if it is eating well and acting normal, i wouldn't worry too much.

I had a childrens with a (sort of indent) down his belly, he was fine...don't know what it was though!!!

I took the snake to a reptile vet today and they confirmed it was not normal and looks like some kind of injury or deformity.

Its also got a rti so not good, the seller is refusing to refund money even though i have vet report saying the snake is sick.

Have contacted DSE and RSPCA as advised as it appears to be a cruelty issue based on neglect.

I was very impressed with there fast response and priority of this issue.

From what i can work out the seller is looking at a number of legal problems

Selling sick or injured protected wildlife
Neglect
Not keeping accurate records

He may well lose his licence and have other animals seized.

Some people are very silly.

Unfortunatly i cannot name the seller due to forum rules however i can say be carefull anyone looking at purchasing snakes in the Melbourne area and in particular anyone looking at purchasing black headed pythons as the seller has some for sale.

What has been the sellers response to you? Do they not beleive the vet and want a second opinion. ask for them to pay for the second opinion. Has there been much conversation between the two parties. I hate these situations but mutual discussions maybe the best approach.

The sellers has taken the view once i walked out of the sellers house with the snake the seller has no responsibility.

The seller refuses to accept there is a number of things wrong with the snake, instead insisting that within 1 hour of purchase the snake got sick with RTI and all the other conditions it has which as im sure you will all agree is insane. The conditions the snake has are all long term.

The seller is now refusing to respond to calls or messages.

I have asked for my money back however i am starting to think the seller will not agree.

At this point the snake is getting the best care if possibly can.

Its on anti biotic injections every 3 days and the heat is turned up.

I am trying to get it to eat as well.

There is a slim chance it may recover but only time will tell.

This alone is appalling. There has been many a thread relating to "warranties" from breeders and sellers and most conclude that common sense prevails and in that time frame mentioned its an absolute disgrace. If they dont beleive the vet then they should atleast refund your money ,you return the snake and everyone moves on. There are enough shysters in the world already DO THE RIGHT THING>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yeah i only had the snake about 1 hour before i rang the seller and said iw ant to return the snake and get my money back.

I guess the only positive to this is the snake is getting vet treatment now under my care however if the seller comes to there senses and refunds my money then i dont know what the fate of the snake will be.

I would NOT be giving the snake back. If that were the case, you should say that it's to pay for the vet bills.

I have also asked for the vet fees to be refunded to myself.

However your right its probably best the snake stays in my care and gets the vet treatment it needs so if he refunds just the purchase price ill be happy with that.

Latest update as of last night the seller is refusing to refund money, and refusing to discuss issue.

Seller has moved house however i have located the sellers new residence and have notified DSE etc.

wow your really following this person ...........are you not worried a bit that it could come back to bite you ?.......I understand your frustration and concern and totally agree with you but i would be a bit worried that a person like this who has no morals or compassion, what the likes this person could do if you piss him/her off thats all,,best of luck

I guess we will just have to wait and see, its possible the seller may attend my place of residence although personally i think the seller is gutless and is nothing more than a shifty crook.

The thing that astonishes me about this seller is the seller does not realise that there is more at stake than just the money. DSE may seize the sellers other reptiles which i am hoping they do. The seller may get fined and charged over this but is either stupid, naive or ignorant to all this.

After this incident me and my partner have decided we will not purchase another snake without a vet check and the all clear from a reptile vet (which im happy to pay for) to avoid a situation like this.

And you know what the funniest thing is?
You're telling the whole world what's going on so this person will just stay one step ahead of you and get away with it.

Well i hope everything turns out ok for you and especially the snake, just remember what redbellybite suggested,b very careful of this person, you never no what they might do.Good luck again with snakey.Cheers

Well what will be will be, he is not one step ahead of us hes actually 10 behind.

This is a matter of princeple and we will cooperate with the RSPCA and DSE to ensure that all is done to hopefully prosecute him.
