hi everyone,
just bought children's python couple weeks ago.
she's only a baby still and she's just shed.

i have just started feeding her twice a week because she's been so agitated lately.

Any tips on calming her down???
so i can handle her without my hand bleeding in the end.
happy for any pointers.

thanks,
steph. :)

i have just started feeding her twice a week because she's been so agitated lately.

I don't understand, what's feeding more often going to do? In fact, it will probably make it more agitated, because it will feel vulnerable all the time. This is because, if it's full of food, it'll be harder for it to get away.

What have you got it in? What are the temperatures, and how many hides has it got? Where is the enclosure located (like, in your bedroom, in the loungeroom, etc.). I'd suggest feeding every seven days.

i asked the guy i got her from and apparently feeding her twice a week keeps her happier.
if it's better to feed her once a week, then i'll go back to that.

she's in my bedroom, out of the sun, in a container.
i've got paper towel in there. she usually hides under that.
temperature is at around 30-31 degrees and one end and the other end is at room temp.

I've never heard of it. It's not logical to me, so I wouldn't recommend it.

When you got her, did you leave her a week before you started handling her?

I've heard someone mention it before, they say that when they are hungry they will be more snappier. But I'm not sure if feeding more really works..

To a small snake EVERYTHING is a threat. It is reacting the way it is because it is scared and forcing yourself on it will only add to its stress.

Given time and size the vast majority will grow in confidence and settle to become nicely behaved relaxed pets all by themselves.

Also put in a toilet roll with one end folded/squashed for a hide just having it under paper is not a good hide they love toilet rolls

if its eatting fine twice a week, just feed it that once a week (if your feeding it 1 fuzzy mouse monday and another thursday, just feed it 2 fuzzy mice on a certain day once a week)
my spotted when i first got him was agro, striked at me wouldn't let me go near him, now he never strikes at me, he just tries to eat me everytime i hold him :p so if hes striking at ya etc? maybe get a hook to get it out with so its not as stressful?? but if hes doin what jasta is doing, its a hunger thing... either that or my snake is just a retard (likely) :D
make sure u have hides etc, i cut up musli boxes and biscuit boxes etc anything i can find in the cupboard so they fit in the click clack :D he loves them.

I'd also suggest covering his enclosure with a towel for a while. That way it's nice and dark, and nothing will stress him. That means you can't peek at him, 'cause that will stress him. ;)

What Ramsayi said...
handle them only when cleaning out the cage....

thanks everyone for your replies.
very helpful :)

so should i keep handling her as she gets bigger, or wait until she's bigger to start handling her??

with feeding her im getting heaps of different responses. some saying only feed one fuzzie a week. others saying 2. someone said four times a week.
anyone have a really good feeding system??

my childreni is still agitated after feeding her two fuzzies a week. so should i increase or decrease the amount of fuzzies i giver her per week????
