So I've adopted a gorgeous baby Mac. @ Approx 6weeks old. It's now 9 weeks old. problem is it only eats lizards- like the garden skinks. I've offered pinkies for the past couple of weeks. But he is becoming a notorious feeder. The guy I got him from gave me a container full of skinks and now I'm down to the last 3. He only accepts the skinks oh and he ate a loose cricket also.

Soooo who knows how to force feed??? As all my other babies are machine
feeders.

Have you tried scenting the pinkie with the lizard? I think it's pretty lazy of the breeder to jump right to lizards after only a couple of weeks :p Were you told it was feeding on lizards before you bought it?

I tried the scenting, he said he's ready for a feed ( as in pinkie ) any day now. That was when he was 6weeks old. I've never had dramas before with feeding as all mine had records of at least 2 feeds.

try placing a limb or part of the lizard in the pinkys mouth, also if you have the option don't force feed... if need be assist feed, this is accomplished by opening the snakes mouth (using something like a butter knife) and placing the mouse partially into the snakes mouth. the snake should then eat the res of the mouse by itself.
don't resort to this though if it's an option, starve him for a couple of weeks if you have too.

How many skinks have you gone thru in three weeks, i had a diamond go 7 months without any food and your feeding skinks after 9 weeks, leave him for a few weeks and only offer pinkies after this as last resort i offer live pinkies so its got movement and just drop it in enclosure then walk away for half an hour when you come back it will be gone, skinks are a easy way out at first but make it hard when you have to do the transition to rodents. When you get it onto rodents you will need to worm it as skinks have parasites unless they have been frozen for at least six weeks

I tried the live pinkies, but he just wrapped up the mice gently for the 2 days i left it in its click clack.
So now ive also got 2 baby mice that im now keeping as pets for surviving 2 days with a snake. I also tried bleeding pinkies. ( quoting- not the live, just in case the nazi attack )
He's eats About 4 every 4-5 days skinks are about 3-5cm in length- could be a vegetarian ??
The owner was giving him 1 skink a day, which yes I know is ridiculous as my other babies can go months without a feed. But when I purchased my snakes they were all on pinkies so feeding was so so easy

I use to have hatchling childrens that only ate skinks. This method worked for me.

Feed them a skink and once the pythons at the back legs of the skink, push a pinkie mouse into it's mouth (not forcefully, just follow the skink with the mouse). This tricks the python into thinking it's one big meal, instead of two. On average, it took about 3 feeds like this, before the python ate a mouse strait up.

But sarcasim is meant to be funny right ?
