I have got a click clack with a small heat mat at the moment.. Im going to get foam to insulate in between the mat and ground, just wondering if i can use another piece of foam to put in between the mat and plastic though. i dont want the plastic to get to hot..

haha that is exactly the way i have my clickclack setup untouchable, but with a piece of carpet between the heatmat and the plastic.

maintains temps very well.

Do you have a snake enclosure with a heat element in it? If you do, I just putmy click clack on top and near where the heat element si, this give plenty of radiant heat for click clacks.

I use a piece of 3mm MDF (very cheap from Bunnings) between the heat mat & enclosure & it works a treat. This is as per the instructions that came with the Microclimate heat mat.

I wouldn't use another sheet of foam, as it is an insulator & would prevent the heat getting to the enclosure floor.

Also, I now use a thermostat to control the temp (probe on the floor inside enclosure) after a heat mat melted a hole in the bottom of an older enclosure. I've had no probs since using a 'stat.

ur using one of the green plastic coated heatmats not a stick on one right?

there shouldnt be any need to put anything between it and the click clack, it would have to be faulty to melt the plastic.

are u using a thermostat?
(it would be recommended,..)

I raise my click clack off the ground now with something like milk bottle lids and the click clack doesn't seem to get too hot, but even then I put an egg carton closed with a hole in each end over the heat mat. That way the egg carton thing heats up but it's not on direct heat. Anubis (the python) rarely comes out of it.

I had carpet under the click clack and then the heat mat but my heat mat caught on fire (the heat mat, NOT the carpet) where the cable goes into the heat mat. I suspect it was a dodgy mat. I am just lucky I was in my room as half the click clack went up within 30-45 seconds. Anubis came out alive and uninjured but pissy as all hell. One of the only times she's bitten me.

i just have a 7watt heat mat and its on a timer 15mins on / 15mins off.

temps have been maintained perfectly. and plenty of room to retreat to if it gets to hot.

My heat mat is one of the green ones with no adhesive. It is on for 15 min, then off for 15.
I am going to get a thermostat for it in the next week or 2, just got to wait for the cash.
I will put the foam under the mat and tomorrow i will grab a piece of mdf to put inbetween.
For the time being i will just put a bit less mat under

i have a piece of polystiren between the matt and the click clack.

i them put a hole, not all the way through, into it and put the thermostat prob in there, so its always the same temp

i use a towel folded over and i cut out a shape of the heat mat and put it in,that way it has a towel underneath and the click clack is just off contact with the mat

heating

gday guys is the use of objects between the mat and the click clack in order to not have to use a thermostat? im just curious of various ways of heating as i just brought a spotted last week n i use a microclimate 20 watt heat mat (the green coated one) with a thermostat. however when i get new additions to my collection its gonna get pricey to fork out the price for multiple thermostats so does the non use of stats for u guys work?
