would that be a difficult task? Have not much knowledge on big cars, but once upon a time (20 odd years ago) I was able to change breaks on both my cars and also exhaust system on one. I`m thinking I am being ripped off when the price tag for change was $1850 and I can easy find the kits at $500 and even less on ebay. But hey what do I know? Any guys who knows a bit about this? Also it is $880 to do control arm bushes?? what ever that is, sounds very expensive when I saw this little "rubbery" things on a video, maybe its labor intensive?
Regards,
wannabemechanic

Get another quote for both jobs. Control arm bushes are easy enough to change if you have a small press or a big vise. Clutches are a pain to do at home as everything is done laying on the ground.

I will add that both jobs are labor intensive, the control arm bushes would be worth while doing at home if you think you can. I redid all the suspension on my commodore a couple of years back, it takes ages to do but worth the result.

Where in qld, most charge labor worse case scenario, what model Jackaroo. Also 4x4's also carry a surcharge, don't know why, I would rather work on a 4x4 than a little car

a clutch job is a lot of work getting out the gear box and such so the quote sounds round about right for the clutch how ever on the bushes i would definitely get another quote they can be a little time consuming but that sounds a little steep but each mechanic has their own hourly rate so couldn't really say that their trying to rip you off and you will always be able to find parts cheaper than what the mechanic will quote you thats because they dont use ebay they buy through places like repco and bursons you could maybe ask if you could supply the part and just pay for labour that may work out cheaper

Was it a dealership that quoted 1800 for the clutch??? Genuine clutch kits are most times double in price over after market. Could only see 3-4 hrs in labour doing a clutch on a 4x4 , factor in for s flywheel machine too( on this note some 4x4's are using dual mass flywheels which the factory reccomends to be replaced rather than machined
