Not a massive problem, but i have lost my original discs for The Sims (the original one, not the new stuff). I have the game loaded on my desk top, but want it on my lap top/removable hard drive. Is there a way to move it to the drive without the discs?

Cheers :)

I'm not familiar with The Sims, but in general, games and other programs aren't usually transferable by simply copying the installed files over to another pc.
This is because when you install the game, information it needs to run properly gets stored in the OS's registry. While it's technically possible to copy that over by extracting it from the registry, it's generally not worth the risk involved in fiddling with the registry.

There are, of course, exceptions. Some programs store any info they need in a file/s and you can transfer them about without installing. But I dunno if The Sims would be one those. Doubt it. You could copy it over and try it, but don't hold me responsible if it goes pear-shaped.

This is all assuming you're using windows. If not, ignore the above, I'm lost when it comes to other OSs.

Cheers. Yes, it's windows, guess i'll just keep searching or just re buy it :)

I just double checked a few sites and the sims original does use registry data (meaning no straight copy and paste)

If you're computer literate, you could always download a torrent, otherwise you can buy a copy on ebay probably for 5-10 bucks

if you have the cd key just download the ISO.

also if you have the last CD you can borrow all previous expansions from a friend install them and then just use the last released cd i think with sims

See if it will let you preload and use your key at Orgin.
EA games Site and Download origin. It may let you use your key.

You need to find the registry entries on the old computer and copy them into the new computer registry. Use regedit to search the old registry for sims and/or EA. Personally I think it would be easier and more fulfilling to get a real life.

Wow, this is a bit nasty. Please feel free to not reply to my threads if this is your attitude. Or, instead of assuming I am going to be playing the game, try asking what I want it for.
