Hi,

I've run into that insurance company quirk where they won't insure you if there's any actual risk. The people who were quite happy to insure me in inner-city Melbourne won't transfer my policy up to Cairns because we get "tropical storms".

Can anyone in an area that gets "tropical storms" please recommend a good insurance company, preferably one that covers the dictionary definition of flood?

Thanks,
Renenet

If you're living in a flood prone area, you will have problems with insurance cover. Cyclone damage, etc., is alright but flood has a stigma to it. There are plenty of insurance companies in Cairns, just have to ring around.

Fortunately, I'm a little way up a hill so I don't think I'll have a problem with flooding - except that there's a depression near my house where water runs down the hill in the wet season. Hopefully gently. :)
