Hi everyone. sorry if this is a newbie question. i live in adelaide and as such am expecting a hot summer. the house last year inside was getting to temps of 38 degrees and this can go on for days. im going to move the enclosure to the coolest room in the house and cover the window with foam to keep it as cool as i can. has anyone got any other ideas for keeping the cage at the optimal temp. the bredli is only 9 months old and im kinda fond of the little guy so id like to keep him happy and healthy. thanks

for around 300 you can buy a window rattler air con. that is what i have. figure it less cost than 1/3 of one of my snake and takes away all the stress during the summer months. Mine only come on if the room gets above 33 so it is not like they are on very often to keep the room between 30 -33 degrees.

depends on the type of enclosure he is in,If its a timber enclosure and the back is easily accessible then drilling holes along the lower back wall will enable you to 'tape' over it in the winter to hold a bit more heat (with small holes there is no danger of snakey getting stuck to it)

air conditioners are a great idea if you are in an area that doesn't suffer the rolling outages or constant blackouts, but not much use it there is no power. Ice bricks wrapped in towels have been used by some when temps soar to 40c+

no apologies needed, its a valid question and at least you are thinking ahead, and didn't wait til we got a heatwave.

a couple of years ago i lived in a house that got up to the mid 40s when it was low 40s outside, my diamond spent a few weeks n a mesh enclosure on the bathroom tiles with a bar stool to climb if the tiles got too cold for her.
the bredli were fine in their normal enclosures with just their heat turned off, when i got home from work id get all the snakes out on the lawn and hose them down till they were cold.

everyone survived, but i got the hell outta there before another summer came around,...

if you have tiled/concrete floors, just putting the enclosure directly on the floor might help,...

thanks for all the help guys. i just got another one yesterday aswell so fingers crossed all goes well.
