does any one know of a product for killing algae that is safe with freshy crocs. i asked the local pet shop and all they could say is use one that says its turtle safe. of course none of there products mention turtles so thought it better to be safe than sorry. and before some one says clean the tank, dont bother i do weekly. and algae eating fish are not really getting the job done in time, so they're out.

How good is your filtration? We have a top filter so it pulls water in from the bottom and then up to the to of the tank. It get's filtered then falls back into the tank getting airated on the way back in. The other thing is direct sun light makes algae grow quicker than you can blink. We don't have of issues with Algae and really only have to change water & clean when the rocks on the floor get mirky, about once a month.

sun light could be the prob. but theres nothing i can do about that unfortunatly. i'm using a massive out of tank filter (not shore how many L's it pumps)

You can slow it with a UV filter - I've found them to be very effective.

They're not to bad, you use your normal mechanical filter and pump it through a UV light (special fitting) which kills much of the spores that algae germinates from.

Though, the tank I had was outside (swimming pool to be precise) it was only getting direct sun for about 2 hours a day.

Maybe worth a try.

I got mine from a reputable seller (hehe) trousa_snake

He even came round and set it up for me while I was out!

I can't recall the price, but I think it was over $100 all up...

There's quite a few styles and devices out there - shop around I guess and see what others have.

Start off at your local aquarium/pool shop and see what they use that is chemical free.

Good luck, and can you please tell us what you end up using, I'm always interested to know if it works etc for future reference.

Cheers

the main reasons you get algae are:
exposed to too much sunlight
the tank is over 200L and doesnt have UVC in the filter.
Even if the tank is exposed to sun the whole time the sun is up a good enough filter with good UVC will kill the algae to a point where it cant grow as fast as it is being killed.

how many liters is the tank?
in my outdoor fish ponds i use either the Jebao PF-10, 20 or 30 depending on the size.
