damn thermostat

My microclimate ministat 100 thermostat died during the electrical storm wednesday night. i just got home from being away with work late last night and saw the termostat light on but paid no attention to thermometer. got up this morning and noticed tubs were at 22 degrees and then looked into why. thermostat was coming on and going off every minute so max temp was only getting to 24 when i played with it. They must not handle the spikes we can get sometimes in storms, interestingly my 2 plasmas my computer all are ok. Now am trying to get temps right by using timer so it is a half hour and off a half hour. i had just ordered a new probe thermostat from the herp shop on monday so it wil be here early next week luckily i only have to get thru weekend.
Has anyone else had this trouble with the electronic thermostats??/

have not had that problem but i run my through surge protectors to make sure it never spikes

I had a Microclimate Advanced Digital Control System on my house enclosure. That died with a power outage. Microclimate wanted me to send it to them in England! It got binned and now has a Habistat on it.

yeah i have real issues with microclimates and having a surge protector on mine hasn't helped either of the two units that have unexpectantly died for me. first one i binned 2nd one on principal i have actually sent to england via Canberra Exotic who kindly lent me a basic one in the mean time free of charge two month on no word from england. i won't be buying one again

i use surge protectors on all of my enclosures, and have never had a problem. their no expensive to buy and they might just save you in the long run. that was a nice offer from solar 17 to offer loaning u a thermostat. just shows theres some great people using this site

I guess you should be glad it was stuck off rather than on. If you can design your cages so you dont need thermostats it is much safer.

Or use thermostats and a heat source that isn't big enough to overheat the cage. It really has nothing to do with cage design, it is possible to use or not use thermostats regardless of the design of the cage.

I guess you should be glad it was stuck off rather than on. If you can design your cages so you dont need thermostats it is much safer.

yeh very lucky. i use them on the Click claks and i have seen peoples plans for cages with no thermostsat but never a click clack i think it would be to hard.

Have to say a big thanks to Baden(solar 17) he is kindly lending me one till i get mine in the mail.

You just fully contradicted yourself lol (how embarrising )

If you have the same enclosure and put a thermostate in it thats one design, if you take it out then you now have a different disign, if you edite the enclosure in any way then you have changed the design
