Just wandering who watched the show last night on national geographic? I really like the look of the papuan taipan nice red/orange like speccles or something on there back very interesting. I also wish i had the chance to be driving down the road and pick up a gtp it did have a caved in head from someone attacking it with a stick or something, but it was still georgous, and the scrubby got him. Are papuan scrub's called barnecks? It was very interesting to watch but i think he needs some bigger hoop bags or something, but well done to David Williams

Cheers Rick

did anyone watch this last night? it was a great show

Yeah I watched it.

It was great, I liked how he was grabbing all the other types of snakes like the GTP and the scrub python and it had a little blurb about it.
Pity my television doesnt have green :x otherwise I could comment on the great colours of the snakes. They all just looked orange and brown on my set.

cheers

G'day Rick,

It can indeed be a bit of a challenge getting some of these guys into bags, but the reason why I prefer the smaller bags is that it is easier to manouver in tight spots (like crawl spaces under houses  ), and the narrow hoop actually makes it a bit harder for the snake to come sailing back out...

Other than that I usually don't have the luxury of a 4WD (albeit one with crappy radial tyres... ) and get around on local transport with just a backpack and catching gear - the smaller hoopbags fit into the pack quite nicely.

Anyway I'm glad people enjoyed the show - there was a lot more stuff left out than went in but I guess condensing 60 hours of film to just 26-27 minutes means that editors have to be brutal. What I really appreciated is the time they took showing some of the problems and challenges associated with addressing the problems of snakebite in PNG - which is actually my main research interest, moreso than antivenom development and crash-tackling taipans.

I also did an episode catching black tiger snakes on Reevesby Island off the SA coast to collect DNA and venom samples - which premiere's on June 26 ... hopefully it'll also be a watchable program ...

Cheers

David
