With my snakes
I was all siked up with planned motivation to walk the 3-4km trail from Trial Bay Gaol to Little Bay and back again. But after walking right round the camping ground at the gaol, I could not find the start of a walking trail. Calling myself stupid, swearing and upset just because I coud not find a stupid walking track, I stopped to take a breather and settle my mood on the rocks, looking out at the ocean. And what better mood swinger is there than to see a group of humpback whales, quite close in, going by. I forgot out being stupid and watched the beauty of a mother and baby stop for a bit of a play before moving on. I followed them around the corner until they were almost out of sight, then I raced back to the car and headed to Smokey Cape Lighthouse where they would be heading to. I got there before them, burnt my throat and legs going up the steep path to the lighthouse but it was worth it. The mother and calf were there, and there was another group of 3 that were jumping up, clean out of the water. What an amazing sight. I still don't have a zoom lens on my camera so these photos are the best I could do, but I was happy with how the day ended.

Oh I found the start of the walking trail as I drove out of the carpark of the gaol, but by that time I was already setting off to get ahead of the whales. So now I know where the trail starts, I'll give it another shot another time :)

Whoa! Lucky you. Looks like a beautiful spot, what a bonus having whales as well.

We went out sailing with an Old Sea Salt from Yorkey's Knob near Cairns and got surrounded by a big school. Unforgettable!

Happy you!

Wow thats cool. I had a pre good day to, its my birthday and i went surfing for school at manly and there was a whale :)

Happy birthday snakes123. Glad you had a good day. Surfing and see a whale? That's awesome - so long as you aren't referring to your teacher :p

I've been to Cairns once in my lifetime. Never saw any whales but visited the Hastings and Michealmas reefs. That was a real experience, too.

Whales are awesome!

Went fishing a year ago in exmouth WA and ended up swimming with a whale shark :)

Glad to see your day improved and it sounds like you are being very hard on yourself.

Also, a beautiful spot up there at SWR.
