its when DECC, Give away Wild Caught animals or animals they have confiscated. the ones i have preciously received have been under fed and sick. You send in an email saying what species they have up on the ballot that year and you have a chance on winning it. They dont have Ballots that often though.

I think it is just a thing u enter and if you get picked you get a free (wild) reptile what isnt even what it is. correct me if im wrong.

Its a DECC Ballet, its the merry dance they lead us with licensing and regulations.

well yes. NPWS dont really have much of an idea.... i recieved a Juvenile Central Bearded Dragon and it turns out to be a Pygmy Bearded Dragon sub-adult.

There actually now known as DECCW - Dept of Enviro, Climate Change and Water.

Im predicting they will add a couple of F's soon DECCWFF - Dept of Enviro, Climate Change, Water, Flora and Fauna.

Who know's what acronym they'll come up with its only tax payers money their wasting reprinting letter heads etc.

WOW that was a rant

Yes DECCW is what they are called now.

Imagine how much work I had to do when they informed us that they were changing their name....
400odd engineering drawings all had to be changed....not to mention the reports and other correspondence involved.

on topic, I have seen DECCW hold about 3-4 ballots this year.

If anyone knows when there will be another one please PM me. 8]

no one will really know when the next one is. they post ads on here sometimes and also keep an eye out on petlink.com.au

I shouldn't tell you this as it will lessen my chance of my name being pulled out of the hat....;)

Strictly a NSW thing. You have about 24 hours to put your name in and it's drawn 24 hours later. You must be around to answer the phone when they make the call, or they go on to the next name. You must then pick up the animal 24 hours later during a narrow time period. It's a tight time frame, but if you have a spare enclosure and are willing to have a punt it can pay off. I got a lovely male MD, around 2 years old. I quarantined him away from home and took him to see David Vella the next day. The only thing wrong with him was a minor case of worms and being overfed by his previous owner. They'd advertied him as a MD, but the paperwork said coastal carpet. He is clearly a MD, so I just wrote this correction in my record book and explained. Haven't seen a ballot for a while. I got lucky - he could have been a nightmare with respiratory problems, mites, etc. You must be willing to do some serious quarantine and get a vet check for any ballot animal.
