Just wonering how far the nect10 fluro's need to be from the substrate for sufficient uv to be available ot the animal? Also this is probably something that would be good for the wiki.

do you mean the minimum the fluro has to be away from the animal or the max it had to be?
I didn't know there was a minium distance?
Wondering as i also have frogs and some spend most of their lives close to the fluro (but there is flyscreen between).
Could someone please explain for stupid me:D

lol yea, max is probably what i was after, got my bird screaming at me a really annoying me so not thinking much right now.

I've heard 2 different 'theorys' to the max distance

1. the distace of the light eg a 2ft fluro will reach 2ft
2. 6 inches from the light any size

i thought 12 inches was for MVB's and 6-8 inches for fluoros,..?

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Most manufactuers of UV lights will state that the minimum distance your reptiles should be is 12inch's from their light. If they get closer that's ok, they will get more UVB at a greater intensity, but any further than 12 inch's away and the levels of UV are greatly reduced and next to useless.
That said, obviously some lights are more powerful, putting out a higher intensity than others ie. 10.0 next to 5.0 or 2.0(more commonly used for frogs).

If you have fly screen or suchlike, you maybe cutting back significently the amount of UVB getting through to your Herps.
