So i am in a position now to get my second snake which i have decided to be a diamond but just tryin to get some knowledge up about there heating and wat not. Cause alot of people are sayin no heat and some sayin normal heat same as others but this has left me all confused. I intend to keep him inside i live in vic so weather has alot to be desired and so wat sort of heat sources should i use i have a wide range of lamps heat mats and ceramics. But wat would be best whilst his in his click clack? Also i am building a new enclosure to house him later on which will be a malimine 2ft d , 4ft h, 2ft w would that be large enough to house him?

I heat all my juvi snakes heated through winter, that way I can feed them all the way through the first couple of years and my older snakes that are kept inside are cooled, this gives me some time to breed some rats up for the next season some may disagree with this ay saying snakes don't get heat in the wild through winter blah blah blah but it works for me and I've never had a problem. Best way to heat a click clack is either a heat mat or heat cord both should be used with a thermostat, I'm pretty sure you can get heat mats with inbuilt thermos. Enclosures bigger the better IMO.

Ah ye but isnt it abit different for diamond cause there from colder climates? Or can they be heated the same as say my bredli?

Hey mate. I use heatmats for my click clacks and you're right, being a diamond it comes from a cooler climate. I would still give it heat, just not as much as your Bredli. My hot end would be around 26-29 for my Diamond.

ah beautiful thats exactly wat my click clack sits at now just with its heat mat.. dont they need uv tho not not so mch whilst hatchies?

first of all.... GREAT CHOICE OF SNAKE!!!!! also i would probably still run some heat in vic.

thanks poggle im very much lookin forward to getting him no sure where i will purchase yet but i am lookin to get it within the next month or so!!! and u reckon just go the max of 30 on the hot side aswell? wat bout the uv?

i have a 2 year old diamond in a tank with pretty much the same dimensions you have. I keep her hot end at around 28 degrees and the ambient air temp sits at about 21, 22. Over winter I'm still giving her heat but only for 4 or 5 hours in the morning rather than a 12 hour cycle.

Ah so u think no uv? This is also my pickle so many different answers i have the uv globes so would it be one of those things that if i have it i might aswell use it or is it really not nessecary?

From what I've read UVB is not needed but if you have it and want to use it for peace of mind go for it. It won't hurt.
Keeping them warm is more important but not to hot. 32 degrees would be the hottest I would ever keep mine. 30 degrees is normally my highest.

i do not heat mine and his fine. it gets below 0 here and friends of mine keep them outside and there fine and breed fine to they dont really hibernate like others and is common to see them out basking through winter time as they are from cooler climates ...mine is 6yr old and never had a problem i dont use uv as i take him out in the sun 2-3 times a week which is plenty....i believe that 28 - 30 in a click clack is to hot and there not really big enough for them to escape the heat... you said you keep him inside so you wouldnt need to but if you want to feed though winter i would provide heat after feeding to help digest the food at about 22deg for a couple of days until passed but heating constatly and feeding constantly is no good for them as it might cause DPS i feed mine 6 times a year. a lean snake is a healthy snake power feeding leads to obesity which brings issues hope this helps
