If a chicken has got some grain in its crop, it ferments in the snake's digestive system and can result in serious diarrhoea. When feeding day-old chicks to snakes, it's best to starve them for a day. Not very king to the chicks but snakes don't enjoy diarrhoea either.
most of my snakes are on a diet of mainly day old chickens. The first few craps after changing over from rodents were a bit loose but it is not a long term problem. You will find everything will return to normal after a few feeds.
You have not seen diarrhoea until you've seen an elapid crap (spray) a feed of chicken
I had the same thing happen when I tried my BHP's on some chicken necks. The male regurged a couple of days later and the female had diarrhoea. Someone mentioned the smell earlier.... in both cases the smell was appalling. I've decided that I would have to be pretty desperate to feed them chicken again.
My Bredlis do the same thing. I tried to see if it would get better if they stayed on chicken for a few weeks. Unfortunately it did not. They both still slopped their poo everywhere. I now alternate between rats and chicks. Two feeds of rats, than a feed of chicks. I bought a lot at a good price, and I dont want to see then go to waste just cause they cause a bit of a mess. Tonight, Jada ate 5. I might take her outside in a few days and see if she can eliminate their remains outside. Will save on cleaning
